O’Brien Shines in Maiden’s 6-2 Win at East Lincoln

Keys to the Game:

Maiden
+  O’Brien (LHP, 2017, UNC) bounced back after hitting some barrels in the first to control the game.  Fastball ranged 84-86, touching 87 early.  Change showed premium qualities.  Full report coming to the NC High School Scout Blog.
+ 3 run 5th started with a walk and SAC bunt from the 8 and 9 hole hitters.  RBI single by JR McRee (C, 2017) was followed by an RBI double from Taylor Tibbs (2B, 2017).  O’Brien reached on a dropped fly ball, pushing the third run in

East Lincoln
+ Solo shot from Alec Burleson (1B/LHP, 2017, ECU commit) off an 84mph fastball in got the scoring going in the first.  Burleson found two barrels in the left on left matchup. 
+ Nate Kinsch (SS/C, 2017, Coastal Carolina commit) flashed good hands and a feel for the speed of the game at short.  Offensively, there is quickness with the bat, working from the right side.


 

Caden O'Brien LHP / Maiden, NC / 2017

 The North Carolina commit worked up to 87 early showing feel for fastball to the arm side.  Change got swing and miss at 69-71.  Full report on the NC High School Scout Blog.

 

 


East Meck Walks-Off After Pitching Dual with Porter Ridge

Two highly rated prospects toed the rubber on Wednesday night at Luke Little (LHP, 2018, Gardner Webb commit) and Brennan Malone (RHP, 2019, UNC commit) faced off.  Little, ranked No. 17 in the NC 2018 class worked six innings.  Malone, ranked No. 1 in the NC 2019 class matched him getting into the 7th

+  Chris Gill (SS, 2018) went 2-4 with a Home Run, 1 run, and 2 RBI
+ Tristan Shea (C, 2017, UNC commit) had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, in 5 at-bats

Cape Fear Uses Williams' 2nd No-No in a Row to Top Jack Britt

In front of several MLB Scouts and PBR National Crosschecker, Nathan Rode, Gavin Williams (RHP, 2017, ECU commit) fired his second consecutive no-hitter to down Jack Britt 2-0.  On a night where offense was hard to come by, Cape Fear found single runs in the second and fourth innings to grab the win.

Keys to the Game:

Cape Fear
+  Williams was dominate much of the night, running his fastball up to 95 early and touching 93 in the 7th.  A full report on the outing will be in the Draft Blog soon.
+  A Ryan Johnson RBI double grabbed the lead in the 2nd
+  Devin Bagley (OF, 2017)  drove in the second run with a SAC fly, scoring Jackson Parker after he doubled to lead off the inning.
+ Cape Fear played error free on the night

Jack Britt
+  Lee was able to match Williams outing for much of the game, keeping Jack Britt within striking distance
+ Defensively, JBHS played error free

AL Brown Slips By Concord in a Game to Highlight Jonathan Thacker

Wednesday night the Kannapolis Intimidators (A affiliate of CWS) hosted a benefit game in honor of Jonathan Hacker.  Hacker was a young ball player, that would have graduated from Concord HS in 2016.  Unfortunately, his life came to an end in a car accident at the age of ten.  In honor of Jonathan’s life, his family gives raises money and gives away two scholarships to students who attend Concord HS and AL Brown HS, each year.  The community rallies around the foundation, continuing to keep Jonathan’s spirit alive. 

The game itself did not disappoint as AL Brown scored in the bottom of the 9th to take the extra inning affair.

+  4 pitchers threw 1 inning apiece from the 6th inning on allowing 0 runs on 1 hit
+ In the 9th, Robbie Clark walked the bases loaded with no outs, only to produce a line drive triple play to CF where the runners at 3B and 2B did not tag up in time.
+ In the bottom of the 7th, a leadoff double, followed by a single setup the tying runs on base.  An ground ball at the Concord SS resulted in two runs scoring on the error.

+  John Vincent was 1-3 on the night with a double, an RBI and a run scored
