PBR Draft 100 Spotlight: Brady McConnell

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

SS Brady McConnell (Merritt Island HS, FL) took the scouting world by storm at the Tournament of Stars last summer, where he put himself in the conversation as one of the top shortstops in the country. He showed a quick bat, excellent speed and the defensive ability to stay at shortstop. He didn’t quite hold up over the course of the summer and his star faded some this spring, but he’s still among the top shortstops in the 2017 class. He has bat speed and bat-to-ball skills, and a slight adjustment to his hands should help him find some consistency at the plate. He has the athleticism to stay at shortstop. A team that takes him will give him every chance to stay there, but worst-case scenario, his speed would profile in center field.

Defensively he showed plenty of range and arm during the three plays he made at short with soft hands and strong accurate throws.

10/16/16- Florida recruit. Stands at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds with a lean, athletic, projectable build. Possesses high baseball IQ and shows advanced, athletic actions all over the field. At the plate he stays balanced with a confident approach and good hand eye coordination. Has loose hands with a short, quick stroke that results in line drives all over the field and into the gaps.

7/8/16- Florida recruit. Currently ranked No.1 overall player in Florida in the 2017 class the 6-foot-3 175-pounder proved why by consistently finding the barrel driving the ball from gap to gap with the balanced lower half and level quick swing.

6/5/16- Florida recruit, McConnell is a 6-foot-2 170-pound shortstop who is very athletic with soft hands, ranges well to both the glove and hand sides and showed an above average arm.
