PBR Draft 100 Spotlight: Sam McMillan

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

A standout at the 2016 Florida ProCase, C Sam McMillan (Suwannee HS, FL) continued to make strides and went off at the Florida Diamond Club Showcase in October. He carried that momentum into the spring and forced his way into the PBR Draft 100. He has a prototypical frame for a catcher, standing at 6 feet, 190 pounds with strength. He has a short, level and quick swing with a strong lower half and feel for the barrel. Defensively, he is above average. His strong hands and solid set-up give him the ability to receive the ball well. He has a quick transfer and slightly above average arm. He is committed to Florida.

10/16/16- Florida recruit. The 6-foot, 190 pound is a stocky strong a prototypical catcher frame. All he did over the course of the two games is hit. He had 5 hits in the two games, the most by any player at the event. With a short, level and quick swing he has a strong lower half and a feel for the barrel.

5/21/16- Florida commit who stands at 6-foot, 190 pounds with a strong and athletic frame with strong legs. He is ranked 36th in Florida and 105th overall. He runs well for a catcher (7.04) and he has an advanced approach at the plate. He is relaxed, has an open stance, and gets a separation for his load.

8/22/15- 2017 C/3B 5’11”/180 Sam has a strong upper body and is still a bit raw w/ the bat but it’s coming along.  Showed some gap to gap hitting potential in BP.
