The 2018 spring high school season in Florida generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of Florida. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

JP Gates

Gates, a senior left-handed pitcher and first basemen from Nature Coast Tech, produced a strong statistical season while helping lead his team to a deep run in the 5A state playoffs.

Gates’ all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Nature Coast Tech, has earned him the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Florida State Player of the Year honors.

Gates has been selected by Florida Scouting Director Doug Freeman and the team of area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering baseball games at baseball diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States.
