The 2019 Panhandle Summer Kick-Off Games took place on Saturday May 18th at the 2019 State-Runner up, Northwest Florida State College. Players from the graduating classes of 2019-2023 took place in a pro-style workout followed by a game. Over the next week, we will take a look at a breakdown of every player in attendance broken down by Outfield, Corner Infield, Middle Infield, Catcher, Pitcher-Only and Multi-Position prospects. Today, we take a look at the middle infielders  in attendance.

Angel Alverio OF / SS / Niceville Senior, FL / 2021 With a stocky, strong frame at 5-foot-7, 160 pounds he impressed more and more as the day went along. Running a 7.14 60 yard dash, with more speed to come as the gait worked well. Defensively, he shows a compact arm action from the outfield, with accurate throws topping at 78 mph. In the infield, he works with rhythm from the ground up. Has confidence in the hands, could improve the first step quickness, but overall is a very solid defender with upside. Offensively, he has a simple and balanced swing with some whippiness through the zone. Stays compact and has gap-to-gap, line drive approach with a high offensive ceiling.

 

Jaxon Topel OF / 2B / Niceville, FL / 2021 Stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. Ran a 7.71 60 yard dash. Showed sound, athletic actions in the outfield, topping at 84 mph. Has some stiffness in the infield, but the hands worked well, also topping at 84 mph. Would see jumps with continued improved strength and athleticism. Offensively, he stands upright and tall. Starting open he showed the ability to stay balanced and clear his back side. He has loose wrists and shows potential with added strength.

 

Caleb Butts 2B / 3B / Port St. Joe, FL / 2019 Stands 5-foot-8, 160 pounds. Defensively, he shows a quality first step. Hands work well and has confidence in them, working ground up with rhythm. Works under control with some present athleticism. Offensively, he has a wide base and starts slightly open. Stays balanced and shows strength to the pull side. Exit velocity topped at 84 mph.

 

Griffin Wilbur SS / 3B / Fort Walton Beach, FL / 2020 A projectbable 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame. He showed an above average gait in the 60 yard dash, running a 7.03 and could see that improving. In the infield, the athleticism shows. He is twitchy with a good first step. Could work with some more rhythm and flexibility, but overall a solid defender. Showed an average arm, topping at 84 mph. Offensively, he stood out with the simplicity of his approach. Stands tall and slightly open. The setup is quite and lets his hands work. Could incorporate a bit more lower half, but shows loose wrists and a feel for the barrel. Exit velocity topped at 86 mph. Has upside as he continues to add strength and tap in that and his long levers.

 

Jaden Grantland SS / 2B / Port St. Joe, FL / 2019 Stands at 5-foot-6, 140 pounds and ran 7.66 60 yard dash. Athleticism played up defensively. Has some twitchiness, with a natural feel and a good first step. Projects as more of a second basemen at the next level, but is a solid defender. Offensively, he has a medium leg kick trigger and while he can get rotational at times, is aggressive though the zone and has a feel for the barrel and line drive approach.
