Preseason Classic Preview: East Region

The 2022 PBR FL Preseason Classic is coming up Monday, February 14th through Saturday, February 19th at Lawnwood in Fort Pierce. The event has featured many of the top Draft prospects in the Sunshine State each year since its inception in 2018. Mason Denaburg in 2018, Zac Veen in 2020, and Andrew Painter and Jay Allen in 2021. Many other top prospects to come through the Preseason Classic have heard their name called in the MLB Draft.
The 2022 Preseason Classic will feature 12 teams with top 2022 Draft talent. The stands will be packed with hundreds of MLB Scouts and we will have special events for the fans in attendance.

This week we will preview each team in attendance, breaking them down region by region. We will highlight the top prospects on each team that the scouts are coming to see. Today, we will continue with our two East Region teams: The First Academy and TNXL Academy.

Ben Barrett, RHP/3B, 2022 (Florida State)
Physical 6-foot-4, 210 pound two way has a lot to like in a projectable frame. Low 90’s fastball with a quick, easy arm action. Consistent delivery and shows feel to spin the breaking ball. Barrett is an impressive two way athlete with a real ability to swing the bat. Finds the barrel with ease and has ability to launch when needed. High ceiling two-way.

2022 Draft Prospects

Logan Plasencia, RHP, 2022 (South Carolina)
Plasencia is a former Future Gamer and has continued to add physicality to his frame resulting in an increase of velo. Throws a heavy fastball in the low to mid 90s. True 12/6 curveball with sharp downhill action. Runs into some command issues that once cleaned up can really excel his trajectory.
Zibin is a 2022 Draft eligible prospect from British Columbia. Physical 6-foot-3, 210 pound right hander with a big time ceiling. Zibin is the No. 1 ranked 2023 in British Columbia with a fastball up to 94 mph. Look for Zibin to impress the Florida scouts as he heads to TNXL this Spring.
