Preseason Classic: Spruce Creek v Miami Christian - MVP Corey Robinson

Doug Freeman
Florida Executive Director

The 2020 PBR-Florida Preseason Classic kicked off in grand fashion at Vero Beach High School yesterday. In front of over 150 scouts, Alejandro Rodriguez and Miami Christian took on Zac Veen and Spruce Creek. While Rosario would run his fastball up to 97 mph, Spruce Creek jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back. Led by Brandon Neely on the mound, who would work 90-93 mph and struck out five in four innings, would help lead Spruce Creek to the 10-0 win.

While Veen, Rosario, Neely and more were all impressive, the MVP from Game 1 is 2021 Florida commit Corey Robinson. Robinson would leadoff the game against Rosario with a single and Miami Christian would fail to retire him in three at-bats. Robinson would finish 3-3 with a pair of singles, a home run and an RBI with two runs scored.

Scouting Report

2/7/19 - Miami commit. Slender athletic build at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds, plenty of room to add strength. Balanced setup at the plate, short toe-tap stride, maintains good balance. Gap-to-gap approach offensively, line drive hitter, barrel whips through the zone, 88 mph exit velocity off a tee. Above average runner, 6.80 laser-timed 60, speed translates defensively. Fields position athletically, runs through the ball, quick/fluid footwork, clean exchanges. Arm works loosely from a ¾ slot, 84 mph from the outfield.

10/17/18 - Miami recruit. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with an athletic frame and room to fill out. Offensively, Robinson displays a simple approach with above average bat speed a feel for the barrel. Looks to drive the ball into the gaps and use his athleticism to turn them into extra base hits. From the outfield, he shows natural actions and takes efficient routes to the ball, cutting off the gaps. Robinson will continue to be one of the higher follows for his class, especially as he strengthens his frame.

01/27/18- Miami recruit. Stands at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds  has a lot of physical maturity with the frame that will stay athletic while adding muscle. Present athleticism and already an above average runner for class, 6.95 60 yard dash.Defensively, he shows above average outfield potential, topped out at 80 mph. Offensively, he shows a simple, advanced approach for age. Simple setup with a very compact swing and above average bat speed with exit velocity of 87 mph. The frame is going to add muscle and everything is going to continue to improve off of already high end tool. Extremely high all around ceiling.

12/16/17- Miami commit. The lean, athletic outfielder ran a 6.84 60 with a really solid gait. You can see him being an above average to plus runner in the future. Offensively all of the tools are above average with plenty of upside. He has an advanced approach an present bat speed and strength. Should have future above average hit and power tools.
