We had some Academy Baseball League action late this week with Pro5 Academy (NC) taking on Elev8 Academy. Game one took place Thursday afternoon at Bob Sorenson Park in Ocoee, Florida. Uncommitted 2020 Trent Simmons got the start for Pro5 and was effective for the first three innings. He would go three innings, allowing an unearned run with 4 strikeouts. Simmons was up to 84 mph with his fastball. Pro5 jumped out to an early lead thanks to an RBI triple from 2020 Wake Forest commit Dane Stewart. Pro5 would never relinquish their lead as they went on to put up 7 runs. Uncommitted 2021 Will Marcy had a hit and two RBI for the game. 2020 Charlotte commit Dante DeFranco collected two hits. On the other side for Elev8, uncommitted 2020 Lermit Pages collected two hits and an RBI and uncommitted 2022 David Bauer had two hits as well and had two stolen bases. Pro5 would go on to win 7-4.

Game 2 of this two-game set took place Friday night at Elev8’s home park in Delray Beach, Florida. Pitching was the story in this one as 2020 UCF commit Ben Vespi got the start for Elev8. He was working 87-90 mph and topped 92. He mixed in a tight 74-76 mph curve with depth. Vespi would go four shutout innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts. 2020 Western Carolina commit John McCormick finished the last three innings for Elev8. The big, 6-foot-5, 230 pound southpaw was working 84-86 mph. He would go three shutout innings, striking out five. Offensively for Elev8, uncommitted 2021 Joseph Phan showed well at shortstop making some tough plays look very easy. He also let the baseball travel and doubled to right to help start a rally for Elev8. Uncommitted 2020 Lermit Pages collected a single and an RBI. Elev8 would take game 2 3-0.
