South Florida Underclass Showcase: Pitching Analysis

Parkland, Fla --- The South Florida Underclass Showcase took place Saturday Nov 7 at Stoneman Douglas HS. Many underclassmen from the South Florida area came to put their talents on display. There were a lot of good looking young arms that threw. Today we take a look at the pitchers who threw on Saturday.

RHP Harrison Ickes Lake Howell HS 2019
5-foot-11, 170 pound right hander with a stocky strong body. Loose quick arm at a ¾ arm slot. Hides ball in back. Lands across the body. Crossfire type delivery. Tough angle against right handed hitters. Head occasionally comes off target. Fastball was 78-80 mph with armside run and glove side cut action. Curveball was a ¾ breaker with tight rotation at 66-67 mph. Starting to show a bit more depth. Threw strikes. Good young arm.

RHP/C/3B Kyle Yeoward Stoneman Douglas HS 2019
5-foot-10, 190 pound righthander with a thick strong lower half. Built more like a catcher but has a loose live easy working arm. Has a short arm like a catcher at a high ¾ slot. Fastball had some late life at 82-83 mph. Curveball had a tight ¾ rotation at 63-65 mph. Dropped arm slot to throw changeup at 68-72 mph. Has good arm speed and more life on changeup. Also looks very good behind the dish. Good looking young player.

RHP Brian Connor Stoneman Douglas HS 2018
5-foot-11, 160 pound righthander with a lean loose athletic projectable young body. Loose easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Fluid delivery that he repeats. Takes ball out and lands in line. Fastball is down-hill and has some sink when he stays down through it and glove side cut action when he gets around it at 82-83 mph. Curveball is a ¾ breaker at 62-63 mph. Changeup has good arm speed with some life at 71-73 mph. Repeats and throws a lot of strikes. Very projectable young arm.

RHP/3B Jorge Garcia SLAM Academy 2018
6-foot, 175 pound righthander with a loose projectable body. Loose easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball is heavy at 77-80 mph. Pauses at top of delivery. Tough to time up. Good rhythm in delivery. Hides ball in back. Takes ball out of hip pocket. Lands slightly across body. Curveball has tight ¾ rotation at 63-65 mph. Throws a knuckleball that has late tumble action to it at 70-72 mph. Tough to hit.

RHP Joel Gonzalez Hialeah Gardens HS 2018
5-foot-10, 150 pound righthander with a loose lean athletic projectable body. Long loose easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Fluid delivery. Good balance. Takes ball out to first base. Long arm arc in back. Lands slightly across body. Fastball was 75-76 mph. Curveball was a ¾ roller at 60-61 mph. Slowed delivery down to throw the changeup at 65-67 mph. Very projectable young arm.

RHP/SS Dylan Goodrich Port St Lucie HS 2018
5-foot-9, 150 pound righthander with a lean loose projectable young body. A bit undersized right now. Loose arm with effort in delivery at a high ¾ arm slot. Quick arm. Fastball was 77-79 mph. Curveball was a downer with depth at 64-65 mph and was the best breaking ball in the camp. Changeup was 70-72 mph. Pushed it a bit. Good rhythm in delivery. Aggressive. Attacks strike zone. Occasionally jumps at hitter. Projectable young arm.

RHP Kevin Heinrich Stoneman Douglas HS 2019
6-foot-1, 160 pound righthander with a tall loose lean projectable body. Loose projectable arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball was 80-82 mph. Curveball was a ¾ breaker at 64-65 mph. Changeup was 70-72 mph with good arm speed. Good balance and rhythm in delivery. Fluid. Takes ball out and lands in line. Consistent release out front. Very projectable young arm.

RHP Carson King Estero HS 2018
6-foot-1, 160 pound righthander with a tall loose lean athletic projectable body. Athletic looking pitchers body. Fastball was downhill at 80-82 mph. Good rhythm in delivery with some deception. Stays tall over rubber. Loose easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Ball comes out of his hand easy. Short in back. Hides ball. Quick arm. Curveball is a short tight cutter at 70-71 mph. Changeup is 73-74 mph with cut action and good arm speed. Repeats delivery. Throws strikes. Very projectable, athletic young arm.

RHP Dayran Lopez Mater Academy 2018
6-foot-1, 195 pound righthander with a thick stocky strong body. Loose easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Arm is a bit short in back. Hides ball. Takes ball out and lands in line but occasionally pulls off line. Good balance and locks out leg at release. Fastball is 80-82 mph and downhill. Curveball is a tight downer with good rotation at 63-65 mph. Changeup is 71-72 mph with good arm speed.

LHP Trace Moore Nova HS 2018
6-foot, 170 pound lefty with a loose lean athletic projectable body. Loose easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball was 75-77 mph with glove side cut action. Fluid delivery with good rhythm and in line. A bit deep in back but gets over front side. Curveball was 64-66 mph with ¾ tilt. Changeup is 69-70 mph with same glove side cut action as fastball.         

RHP Anier Ricardo Vila Forset Hill HS 2018
5-foot-11, 155 pound righthander with loose lean athletic projectable body. Loose arm with a High ¾ arm slot. Fastball was 76-77 mph. Curveball was a downer at 62-64 mph. Inconsistent release out front. Changeup was 69-71 mph. Good balance over rubber with inconsistent release out front. Takes ball out slightly past hip and lands in line.

LHP Ricky Shimko Stoneman Douglas HS 2018
6-foot-2, 165 pound lefty with a loose lean athletic projectable young body. Long loose arm at a high ¾ arm slot. . Deep in back and takes ball out to third base. Inconsistent out front because head comes off target. Fastball was 73-75 mph with glove side cut action. Curveball was a ¾ breaker that was a bit soft at 57-59 mph. Changeup was 58-60 mph and slows down to throw it. Projectable young arm.  

RHP Hunter Fitzgerald Stoneman Douglas HS 2019
5-foot-8, 130 pound righthander with a young skinny loose projectable body. Loose arm at a sidearm arm slot. Fastball was 67-69 mph with a lot of run. Curveball was a short breaking slurve at 61-64 mph. The changeup had sink and run at 57-61 mph. Tough angle against right handed hitters. Gets gathered over the rubber with good extension out front. Changes arm slots.
