Summer Standouts: East Region 2023s

After a long hot summer down in the sunshine state, we want to look back at the many players who stood out at showcases this year. Plenty of committed and uncommitted talent from each high school class made a name for themselves this summer and really stood out to our scouting staff.

Monday, we introduced our 2021 Summer Standout series. This series will highlight players from each class that really stood out at our events this summer. Throughout this Summer Standout Series, we will get ready for our State Games this Fall with the theme of #RepYourRegion. Each standout article will be broken down region by region. Today, we will continue with the East Region 2023 Standouts.

East Region 2023 Standouts

Breydan Calapa LHP / Orangewood Christian, FL / 2023

Calapa is a 5-foot-11, 170 pound left hander from Orangewood Christian. He plays travel ball with the Orlando Scorpions. Calapa is a contact pitcher who sits in the low 80's from the left side. Throws all three pitches for strikes and does a good job mixing speeds and mixing spots. Calapa got the start in game one of the Future Games going three innings against Team Carolina. He would allow no runs on three hits with one walk.

Carlos Celta 1B / OF / Florida Virtual, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 190-pound solid athletic build. Solid at the plate, Celta had a max exit velocity of 93 mph. (66.68 mph bat speed average). (22.19 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall balanced stance with a quick controlled load, then uses a short stride. Had electric bat speed, short upward swing plane and high finish. Created a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive gap to gap approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 80 mph; has consistent hands, smooth feet, and a clean natural exchange. Solid recorded an outfield position velocity of 81 mph; shows athletic feet, consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball to the side. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.43.

Logan Chapman 3B / SS / Lake Brantley, FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 180-pound athletic physical frame. Projectable at the plate, Chapman recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph. (66.07 mph bat speed average). (22.70 mph hand speed average). Begins in a tall balanced stance with a slow controlled load, then uses a short leg kick. Has electric bat speed, short uphill swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive approach. Solid showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 87 mph; had soft consistent hands, athletic footwork, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. From a ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a long quick arm action.

Eric Correa OF / 1B / Montverde Academy, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 175-pound solid athletic build. Projectable at the plate, Correa's 98 mph exit velocity ranks him 2nd at the event. (65.51 mph bat speed average). (21.51 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced open stance with a quick controlled load, then used a controlled leg kick. Has explosive bat speed, short level swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Above average projectable in the outfield, he used momentum and arm strength to record throws up to 89 mph;shows athletic rhythmic feet, a clean natural exchange, and soft consistent hands. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a long very quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.37.

Dallas Dale II OF / Mount Dora Christian Academy, FL / 2023

Dale is a 6-foot-1, 175 pound outfielder from Mount Dora Christian Academy. Dallas plays travel ball with Power Baseball. Dale is our 9th ranked player in the Florida 2023 class. Balanced, athletic stance at the plate with quick hands. Ability to spray both gaps with ease showing gap to gap power.
