Team USA 15U Trials Notebook

By Nathan Rode

The USA Baseball 15U National Team is conducting trials in Cary, NC, this week with 40 players from across the country vying for a spot on the final 20-man roster. Those selected will remain in Cary for training for a few days before heading to Mazatlan, Mexico, for the 15U World Cup. All of the players are 2017 or 2018 graduates. Here are a few notes from the first two scrimmages…

+ OF Brice Turang (Corona, CA) was the most fun to watch. Just a rising freshman, he stands at 5-foot-10, 145 pounds and handled the bat from the left side, going 4-for-5 in the first game and 1-for-3 in the second. He has a good swing with loose hands and runs well. He wasn’t overmatched by velocity either, taking an 88 mph fastball down the left-field line for a double in his first at-bat. He plays aggressively and has good instincts, putting pressure on the defense when he’s on base.
