Scouting Report

2018 MLB Draft - Selected in the 1st round, 26th overall, by the Boston Red Sox

03/10/18- Miami recruit. Played third on the night, also the first time I have seen him there. There is some stiffness and does not look overly comfortable there yet. Would be interesting to see later in the year, but most likely still profiles at first base. Offensively, he was 1-3 with a double, three RBIs and a pair of walks. He is balanced with a strong, wide base at the plate. There is some swing and miss, but he has an advanced approach. Showed the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field with a double to left. There is present strength and above average power with chance for above average hit.

10/14/17- Miami recruit. Tall, athletic frame with a strong lower half. Has continued to lean out. He comes into the event one of the top hitter in the class. He has long levers and creates plus power at times. There is an advanced approach and feel for the strike zone. There can be some length, but overall the swing works and has some of the biggest power potential in the class.

8/24/17 - Named to Team USA 18U team.

7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.

7/1/17 - Casas has had a quiet week, but he destroyed a ball Saturday in his third at-bat. With two on and two out, he jumped on a mid-80s fastball from RHP Brett Soulages (San Ramon Valley HS, CA) for a three-run home run. The ball came off the bat at 109 mph and traveled 385 feet to right-center field.

9/2016 - Made USA 18U National Team.

6/16/16- Miami recruit. Currently ranked No. 1 in the Florida 2019 class, No. 1 overall. Physical, athletic build with a strong lower half standing at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds on an extra-large frame. One of the top power hitting prospects in the country in his class. Wide stance with a good step for his load. Stays balanced. Hands stay inside the ball well with some loft in his swing. Plus bat speed. Loose hands with good hand eye at the plate from the left side. Confident hitter with an aggressive approach that consistently finds the barrel and makes hard, loud contact. Ball jumps off the bat with the ability to drive the ball deep into the gaps or over the wall. Already present power. Put several over the right field wall at Jet Blue Park that got out in a hurry. Shows good plate discipline and awareness, smart player. On the mound he has an easy working arm and gets some extension out in front on his delivery. Occasionally can fall off to the side on his follow through. Fastball sat 88-90 mph with run, touching 91 and mixed in a 72-75 mph slider with depth and hard bite.

4/27/16- Miami recruit. Currently ranked No. 1 in the Florida 2019 class, No. 1 overall. Strong, athletic 6-foot-4, 240-pounder with a strong lower half on a large frame. At the plate Casas slowly taps his shoulder with his bat for timing along with a quick step for his load from the left hand side. Head stays on the ball and drives his hips quickly through the box. Knees are slightly bent and stays balanced. Showed quick bat speed along with loft and extension in his swing. Ball comes off the bat hard and he consistently barrels it. Big time power potential. Flied out to deep left-center field during one at bat and crushed a no-doubter home run over the left-center field wall later on during the game. Shows good plate discipline and possesses baseball IQ. Aggressive player.

3/2/16- 6-foot-4, 238-pound Miami recruit with a big, strong body with a thick lower half. Showed some good bat speed at the plate with the ability to square it up and drive the ball with authority from the LH side. Ball comes off the bat hard. Power potential. Advanced approach at the plate. Bends his knees a bit, but stays balanced in the box.

6/14/15- 6-foot-5 225 pounds with a tall, projectable body with strength on an extra-large frame. Loose and easy actions all over the field. Soft hands in the field, smooth, and an average ML arm across the diamond. Good rhythm at the plate with an easy swing. Nice swing plane and drives the ball to all fields. Has a good load and the ball jumps off his bat.

12/7/14 SF Elite Tryout-Very young kid with big body. Good 2 way guy. Has strength and bat speed at an early age. Has a loose bat with quickness in his hands. Has some strength with power now with much more to come. Has a good plane and stays inside ball well. Has some length with lift in swing. Can hit the ball out of the park already. On the mound he has a H3/4 slot with a loose easy working arm. The ball jumps out of his hand. His FB has some tilt and is 83-84 mph. His CV is a downer with very good rotation and already has some depth, 70-71 mph. Threw plenty of strikes. Will be interesting to watch him grow into his body. Has alot of upside.
