Last weekend, September 23rd and 24th, 12 Junior Colleges from Florida gathered in Auburndale, at Lake Mrytle Park, to play a a series of fall ball games in front of a crowd of approximately 100 scouts. PBR Florida, in conjunction with PBR JUCO, was on-hand to take in all the action. Read below to find reports, videos and notes on nearly 40 prospects.

Junior Colleges: Polk State, Chipola, Hillsborough, Seminole State, State College of Florida, Florida Southwestern State, Lake Sumter, South Florida State, Palm Beach State, St. Petersburg, St. John's River State, Eastern Florida State

POLK STATE JC

Alex Goff, RHP, Polk State JC (FR)
6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher, strong, durable frame. Short, quick arm action, out of a ¾ slot, gets down the hill with some quickness, smooth rhythm. Fastball came in with some weight to it, located around the zone, sat 87-88 with armside run. At-time took some off, 83-85, generated more run and sink effectively. Curveball, had feel for, commanded on both sides of the plate, comfortable throwing at front leg of right-handed hitters, slurve-like, 76-78.

Billy McKay, RHP, Polk State JC (SO)
Florida transfer. 6-foot, 195-pound athletic right-handed pitcher. Utilizes a sidearm to submarine arm slot. Is able to repeat unorthodox delivery with some effectiveness. Relies on lateral movement to induce weak contact and swing-and-misses. Fastball sat 85-86 with run. Curveball, sweeping action, 68-70.

Brandon Williams, RHP, Polk State JC (SO)
Northern Illinois transfer. 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, strong build. Started Game 1 of the day, Fastball sat 86-87 with run. 12/6 curveball at 73-76. Changeup, used less often than curveball, 79 mph.

CHIPOLA

Stewart Currie, RHP, Chipola (RS-FR)
At 6-foot-7, 190 pounds, the Louisville transfer has a long, lean frame with more room to fill out. The long levers do not always sync up to extension, but when he gets out in front the 87-89 mph fastball showed more life. The arm works fairly clean, but overall the frame and potential will make him an interesting arm to follow.

Kenneth Folch, LHP, Chipola (FR)
At 6-foot-6, 165 pounds, Folch is another long, lean frame with even more projection as the shoulders are broad, sloped and can easily see him adding 10-15 pounds. Currently the arm works free, loose and easy. The fastball worked mostly 86-88 mph, but showed late life and commanded it down in the zone. Showed a feel for an average to above average slider at 72-75 mph. Great frame with a loose are and an extremely high upside.

Ivan Johnson, INF, Chipola (SO)
Listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds, it doesn’t take any expert to see how physically strong and athletic he is. He immediately passes the eye test and looks like he would fit in just as well at middle linebacker on that Saturday as he did in the middle infield. Defensively, he most likely slides to third, where he played in game two, but works with confident and athletic actions. Hands work and throws were accurate with carry and plenty of arm strength to stay on the left side. Offensively, he was was on the barrel in nearly every at-bat for both games. The switch hitter looks comfortable on both sides, but the left-handed swing seems to be a bit more compact, but both sides there is bat speed and power potential. Overall, one of the biggest winners from this early look and will be a high follow through the fall and into the spring.

Jared Howell, OF/RHP, Chipola (SO)
The two way prospect was intriguing both on the mound and at the plate. On the mound, he features a compact, quick arm and ran his fastball up to 92 mph. Offensively, he has a stocky strong frame that generates bat speed and power, which translated to a home run in game one. Interesting two-way prospect to follow.

Logan Jarosz, RHP, Chipola (FR)
5-foot-11, 185-pound athletic right-handed pitcher. Long arm action, over-the-top slot, sits on back-side, heavy drop and drive delivery. Fastball sat 89-91. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 73-77. Changeup at 83 mph.

Jacob Smith, LHP, Chipola (FR)
6-foot-7, 220-pound lanky, physical, extra large frame, left-handed pitcher. Projectable build, could very easily add muscle and firmness. Uses length and extension well. Fastball sat 85-87, got up on hitters quickly though. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 71-73. Changeup at 77-78

HILLSBOROUGH CC

Jose Cadena, OF, Hillsborough (SO)
Slightly undersized at 5-foot-8, 165 pounds, the switch hitting outfielder stands out with above average, twitchy athleticism. Defensively, he is a rangy, above average to plus defender. Offensively, he is a sparkplug. Has present hit tool from both sides of the plate. Swing is compact, has a quality approach and overall an offensive tablesetter. Fun player to watch who stands out the more you watch him.

Adrian Gomez, INF, Hillsborough (SO)
The sophomore infielder has a stocky, strong frame at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds. While the actions work in the middle, he has a feel for the position, could see being  a plus defender at third. Bat has some length, but there is above average bat speed and strength. Had a home run to left and will be a infielder with right-handed power potential to follow.

Spencer Bodanza, LHP, Hillsborough (SO)
6-foot, 180-pound athletic left-handed pitcher. Unorthodox, short arm action, comes to near full-stop on back-side, accelerates quickly to a high ¾ slot, repeats well. Low effort drop and drive delivery. Fastball, pounded the strike zone, sat 90-92 with run. Curveball, 1/7 shape, late bite to it, 76. Changeup, third pitch, some fade, 82.

Conner Dunnam, RHP, Hillsborough (FR)
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed pitcher, strong lower half, thick build. Closed out first game of the day. Short, compact delivery, works with smooth rhythm, repeats over-the-top slot. Primarily used fastball, sat 86-88, touched 89.

Beau Nichols, RHP, Hillsborough (SO)
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, strength in lower half. Works with a long arm action, average arm speed, over-the-top slot. Drop and drive delivery, leads with hip. Fastball sat 86-87. Curveball, disguises well, late bite, induced multiple swing and misses, 73-75.

SEMINOLE STATE

Haden Erbe, RHP, Seminole State (RS-SO)
One of the biggest winners of the weekend. The Louisiana-Lafayette transfer has some present strength, especially in the lower half, in his 6-foot-3, 220 pound frame. Working from the stretch only, he has a very simple delivery. The arm action is very compact, clean, and quick. He worked with low effort and the fastball worked an easy 94-95 mph with riding life through the zone. Erbe also showed a feel for a curveball at 77-78 mph that had tight spin and depth through the zone, proving to be a swing and miss pitch. Overall, there was a lot to like and easily one of the top arms in the state if he can continue to build off of what he showed on Saturday.

Louis Davenport, RHP, Seminole State (SO)
An athletic 6-foot, 160 pounds, Davenport showed a loose, quick arm that worked from a high 3/4 slot. The fastball worked 88-92 with life, down in the zone. When he got his fingers on top and to extension, the slider showed potential at 85 mph. Overall, an athletic arm that has some upside and worth a follow.

DJ Morland, RHP, Seminole State (RS-SO)
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher. Mature presence on the mound, feel for all around game. Clean, repeatable delivery, easy effort throughout. Stuff is not overpowering, high level pitchability. Fastball sat 83-85 with some run, commanded in the zone, changed levels, went inside and out, got swing and misses with. Curveball, 11/5 shape, was able to locate both inside and out, comfortable throwing at front leg, 75 mph.

Marvin Guzman, RHP, Seminole State (SO)
6-foot-2, 230-pound, physical right-handed pitcher, big, strong frame. Primarily relied on fastball with heavy armside run, some late life, sat 88-90. Still learning to command, difficult pitch for opposing batters to deal with nonetheless.

STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA

Hunter Perdue, RHP, State College of Florida (SO)
Another big winner from early in the JUCO fall season. Perdue, who showed a lot of potential and a big arm last year, has cleaned up mechanically and is landing more in line and working more under control, with less effort and the results were noticeably better command. The fastball worked downhill at 90-95 mph and while he is still somewhat closed, repeated well and was able to command to glove side and down. The slider showed above average potential, but overall, the noticeable improvement with, easy clean arm action will have him on the rise early on.

Chris Holcomb, LHP, State College of Florida (SO)
The Alabama transfer has lean 6-foot-4, 190 pound frame. Throws from a 3/4 slot, slightly crossfire, with a loose arm. The fastball worked mostly 86-89 mph with some arm side life. The slider was flat at times at 71 mph, with sweeping action through the zone. Flashed average and should continue to improve. Overall, a great frame and loose, left-handed arm to follow.

Remi Patry, INF/OF, State College of Florida (FR)
The left-handed hitting utility player had a pair of hits in the second game. Showed a compact, left-handed swing with the ability to turn the barrel with present bat speed. Seems to have some bat to ball skill and will be a left-handed bat to follow.

Kobe McPike, OF, State College of Florida (FR)
The 6-foot, 225 pound corner outfielder has a ton of present strength throughout the frame. Showed real right-handed power with a home run to left. Overall, big power potential to follow.

Tyler Acosta, OF, State College of Florida (FR)
Drafted in the 39th round in the 2017 draft, the athletic outfielder shows a ton of tools and potential. The swing works, compact with bat speed and had a single in the first game. Defensively, natural instincts, foot speed translates when tracking, supremely confident in abilities. Arm is playable from center, throws are true and accurate. A lot of tools and upside with potential to really hit.

FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE

Victor Florentino, OF, Florida Southwestern (SO)
Listed at 6-foot, 188 pounds, he showed over the course of two games the ability to be a plus defender in center. Rangy, above average speed he tracked down balls from gap-to-gap. The switch hitter has some steepness in the path from the right side, but has bat speed and bat to ball skill. Left handed, the swing is level, compact with bat speed.

Rafael Santos, LHP, Florida Southwestern (SO)
6-foot-1, 185 pounds he has a lanky frame with some room for projection. There is some deception, the arm is loose and fairly compact in the back. A bit inconsistent with command, but the fastball worked 84-86 mph with more to come. Showed a changeup at 80 mph and a slider at 71 mph. Interesting left-handed arm to follow.

SOUTH FLORIDA STATE

Jakobe Smith, C, South Florida State (SO)
6-foot-3, 225 pounds, he is a broad and strong throughout. Stood out defensively where he showed an above average arm. Solid defensive catcher with present strength and some power potential.

Dylan Kelley, RHP, South Florida State (FR)
6-foot-5, 215-pound, right-handed pitcher, large, strong frame, plenty of room for continued physical development. Short arm action, ¾ slot, gets to the plate quickly. Fastball sat 87-89, touched 90. Changeup, fade action, 78. Curveball had sweeping action to it, gets around on.

Casey Asman, RHP/INF, South Florida State (FR)
6-foot-3, 198-pound two-way prospect, physical build, strength throughout frame. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, momentum carries towards home. Fastball sat 87-90 with armside run. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 79.

PALM BEACH STATE

Yordy Cabrera, RHP, Palm Beach State (FR)
6-foot-1, 205 pounds, he has a strong lower half and uses a drop and drive delivery. Could benefit from staying a bit taller on the backside, but showed ability to throw strikes with a fastball that worked mostly 90-93 mph with some arm side life. Slider worked tight at 82 mph and commanded it down. Some deception and fastball appeared to get on top of hitters.

Mason Doolittle, C, Palm Beach State (SO)
LSU transfer. Listed at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Doolittle has always been physically strong, but appears to have put on even more strength. Offensively, he was on the barrell the entire day with a home run and single in the first game. There is strength and power. There is some stiffness and will have to make some strides defensively, but there is real offensive and especially power potential.

Tommy Green, RHP, Palm Beach State (SO)
6-foot-2, 205 pounds. Caught one inning of work and was an impressive two pitch mix. The fastball worked 88-89 mph with heavy sink and commanded it down. Really liked the slider, which flashed plus at 81-83 mph with tight spin and late, two-plane action.

Ryan Wimbush, RHP, Palm Beach State (FR)
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, strong frame, physical build. Works straight over-the-top, creates good tilt, most effective when pitching low in the zone. Fastball sat 85-87, played harder. Buried a breaking ball at 81 mph.

ST PETERSBURG COLLEGE

Quinton Martinez, LHP, St Petersburg College (SO)
Lanky, 6-foot-2, 165 pound left-hander has made some big strides. Still some upside and projection left, currently worked with a loose, easy 3/4 arm action. There is a whippy arm action and the fastball worked 88-91 mph with potential for more. Slider showed potential at 76 mph. Overall, he is trending upward and made some really nice jumps recently and will make him an arm to follow.

ST JOHN’S RIVER STATE

Jackson Spiller, RHP, St John’s River(FR)
6-foot-2, 180 pounds he has an athletic frame and showed a compact, quick high 3/4 arm action. Fastball worked 87-90 mph with life. Showed an above average curveball with depth at 75 mph. Still some upside and will be a young follow.

Elijah Gill, LHP, St. John’s River (SO)
5-foot-11, 195-pound left-handed pitcher, athletically-built. Loose are action, high ¾ slot, clean delivery, gets out front quickly, smooth rhythm. Fastball, sat 88-90 with armside run. Slider, 1/7 shape, good shape at-times, gained feel for as inning progressed, inducing multiple swing and misses, 79 mph. Set batters up with fastball, finished them with breaking ball.

Darin Kilfoyl, RHP, St. John’s River (SO)
6-foot-7, 270-pound right-handed pitcher, extra-large physical frame, long arms, imposing figure on the mound. Quick two-step delivery, uses length and extension well out of a high ¾ slot. Overpowered opposing batters with fastball, sat 89-91.

EASTERN FLORIDA STATE

Steven Lugo, MIF, Eastern Florida (SO)
The middle infielder showed athletic actions and quick first step. Solid defender who should stick in the middle. Offensively, there is present bat speed and had a hard hit double. Athleticism to follow.
