Trinity Christian Pitches Their Way Past Brito

By Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

In a 2A regional quarterfinal matchup, between Miami Brito HS and Trinity Christian Academy (Lake Worth), Brito would get on the board first with two run in the first inning thanks to a RBI double from Jeffrey Rodriguez followed by an RBI single from 2020 Miami commit Carlos Perez. Perez was impressive the entire evening and showed why he is currently the No. 6 ranked player in Florida and No. 18 overall. Offensively,, he stands tall in the box with an aggressive approach and plus bat speed for his class. He has a strong lower half and quality path through the zone that should generate power in the future. Defensively, he shows above average all around actions with soft hands and shows the ability to be a potential plus receiver. He is also flexible with a strong arm and showcased a 2.0-2.1 pop time that will continue to improve.

Trinity Christian would answer back in their half of the second. With a two RBI single from Jorge Zambrano, followed by a double steal on a first and third play, TCA would scratch across three runs. Wofford recruit, LHP David Yourke would get the start, going 3.2 innings striking out two while allowing two runs, one earned. 2018 FIU recruit Angel Tiburcio would come in relief with runners on first and second and retire Dominguez on a weak ground ball. Tiburcio would finish the final 3.1 innings, striking out four while allowing one hit while working 89-91 mph from a low 3/4 slot mixing in a sweeping slider at 77-80 mph.

Trinity Christian moves on to face Miami Christian next week in the FHSAA Regional Quarterfinals.
