Winter Garden, FL—Two power house teams in the state matched up in Trinity Christian Academy, FL, and West Orange HS, FL. At one point, there were 10 Division I recruits on the field and a few more that didn’t get into the game. Trinity Christian is coming off a state championship with a bulk of its team returning, in addition to 2016 OF Todd Lott transferring in. West Orange is also loaded with arms to spare and nearly the entire starting lineup is committed to playing in college.

A game that was supposed to be a pitchers’ duel between highly touted 2016 RHP Tyler Baum (West Orange HS, FL) and 2017 RHP A.J. Labas (Trinity Christian Academy, FL), turned into a high scoring, back-and-forth affair that went into extra innings. 2016 OF/RHP J.C. Flowers (Trinity Christian Academy, FL) led the game off with a groundball single up the middle and 2017 SS Austin Martin followed with a home run off a 90-mph fastball from Baum. West Orange answered in the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles from 2017 2B Bobby Head and 2017 SS Chris Seise and then got RBI singles from 2016 1B Nathan Schreckengost and 2016 RHP/DH Ethan Jones with RBIs singles to tie the game at 2-2.

In the second inning, 2016 C Matt Coello (West Orange HS, FL) was hit by a pitch and 2016 IF Kole Enright follwed with an RBI single.

Flowers, a Kentucky recruit, hit his first of three doubles in the third inning, which was followed by a walk to Martin. Lott, a Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, took Baum deep to give Trinity Christian a 5-3 lead.

In the fourth, 2016 1B Jeff Fripp (Trinity Christian Academy, FL), a Lander recruit, singled and stole second before scoring on an error. Flowers followed with his second double of the night, scoring 2016 OF Dalton Johnson. Baum, a North Carolina recruit, was then relieved by Jones, trailing 7-3.

Lott reached was hit by a pitch in the fifth and 2016 3B Parker Aman drove him in with a double down the right field line. West Orange answered in the bottom of the half when Head reached on an error and Seise followed with a single. Jones then drove them both in with a single down the third base line and an outfield error, making the score 8-5.

Coello led off the sixth with a walk and then 2018 LHP/OF Doug Nikhazy hit a two-run bomb to right field. Enright then singled, Head was hit by a pitch and Seise sacrificed them over before Schreckengost walked to load the bases. Jones collected his third hit and fourth RBI of the game, a single up the middle to tie the game.

After no score in the seventh, the game went into extra innings and Flowers led off the ninth with a double and Martin got an infield single. Lott then hit an infield single to score Flowers and Nugent grounded out to short, driving in the second run of the inning. Ragland finished the Warriors off in the ninth to secure a 10-8 win for Trinity Christian.
