Prep Baseball Report

Unsigned Junior Spotlight: OF Justin Quintana

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season in limbo, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Over the last month, we have been spotlighting several uncommitted seniors to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level in 2021. Starting this week, we will move on to uncommitted 2021's who will be heading into their senior summer.

Next up is uncommitted 2021 OF Justin Quintana (American Heritage). Quintana is a physical athlete at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. He was a member of Team Florida at the 2019 PBR Future Games. Quintana is No. 77 in the PBR Florida Class of 2021 rankings.

Scouting Report

8/22/19

Stocky, athletic frame. Physical bat showed well throughout the week, and really impressed in BP rounds. Short and compact swing with great leverage throughout led to consistent backspinned gappers. Strong, efficient lower half. Forward extension and barrel path is elite with present bat speed. One of the better pure hit tools on Team Florida with an advanced approach and feel at the plate. Registered an 86 mph exit velocity. Moves well in the outfield with a slightly above average arm notching 82 mph with a short action. Improved on his previous 7.13 60-yard dash with an above average 6.81.

6/30/19

Stands 5-foot-10, 184 pounds, but plays more physical than his stature. Ran a 7.13 60 yard dash. Moves athletically with smooth, above average arm in the outfield along with a sure glove. Offensive stand out. Barreled balls all day with compact, but violent swing. Gap to gap line drive approach with plus lower half, bat path and extension to drive the ball consistently. Showed ability to sit on BB and drive it with backspin to the right-center gap. Polished hitter that can play a corner outfield spot at the Division 1 level.

8/12/17

Running the best time of all of the 2021’s at 6.99, he showed a lot of quick twitch actions. Defensively, he shows athletic actions in the outfield and a strong arm topping out at 80 mph. Offensively he has some present strength and bat speed with present bat to ball skills.
