Venice Takes Down Windermere Prep In Preseason Tune-Up

VENICE, FL- Windermere Prep squared off against Venice High School on day one of the Venice Preseason Tournament.  This was the second-to-last preseason game before the FHSAA season opens up next week. Despite only 3 hits in the game Venice took advantage of 11 walks and put together a five run 6th inning to win 7-5.

Austin Bergner, one of the top arms in the 2016 class, got the start for Windermere Prep and worked 2.2 innings while striking out 3. 2015 RHP and Virginia Tech commit Cole Kragel got the start for Venice working 3 innings, allowing 3 hits, while striking out 4.

With Venice trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th, Sophomore Shane Shifflett came up with the bases loaded and hit a 2-run single to put Venice up 5-4 to highlight a 5-run 6th for the Indians. Junior Brent Killam came in to close out the game, working the final inning allowing an unearned run and striking out four to earn the save.

Trevor Holloway-Went 1-2, with 2 walks, and 2 RBIs

Cole Kragel, Colin Cristello, Evan Carvalho, and Brent Killam combined to strike out 15 Laker hitters.
