Walk-Off Sends Sunset to Regional Finals

It came down to the wire on Friday, with Sunset taking victory on a dramatic walk-off home run in the late innings that sealed their victory over St. Brendan. The game was tied at five with Sunset batting in the bottom of the seventh when Andres Gonzalez’s two run homer walked things off for the Knights.

Sunset earned the victory despite allowing St. Brendan to score four runs in the fourth inning. Alan Perez and Lucas Fernandez all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

St. Brendan got things started in the first inning with a bases loaded walk. Alexander Garcia was credited with the victory for Sunset. Garcia allowed no runs on one hit over three innings, striking out three.

Vincent Van Hemert got the start for St. Brendan. Van Hemert lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking one.

Sunset hit two home runs on the day. Daniel Reyes had a homer in the sixth inning and Andres Gonzalez had a homer in the seventh inning.

Sunset had ten hits in the game. Reyes and Nicholas Rodriguez both collected multiple hits for Sunset Knights. Luis Suarez led St. Brendan with two hits in three at bats.
