West Florida Select: Day 1 Scout Blog

The PBRT West Florida Select kicked off at IMG Academy with action all day from the Upperclass and Underclass Divisions. The tournament will last four days with a winner in each division determined on Monday. Today, we will take a look at our Scout Notes from Day 1 at the West Florida Select. See who stood out to our PBR Florida Scouts.

Scout Notes

Lahiem Bell C / OF / Vero Beach, FL / 2022

Bell continues to find a knack for the barrel. Shows the power as he drives gaps and flashes the hit tool as he will spray line drives the other way as week. Seems to be in a groove offensively.


 

 


Nick Cucchi OF / RHP / Bishop McLaughlin , FL / 2024

Athletic outfielder continues to show the power potential time and time again. Launched a double to the warning track, and followed up with another hard single in his next AB. Advanced feel for the barrel with a lot of upside offensively. 4 hits total on the game. 

 


Fernando Ferrer 3B / RHP / Montverde Academy, FL / 2025

Large, advanced frame with tools bursting at the seam. Shows maturity with a natural swing and great timing. Stays balanced throughout the swing and controls the barrel as well. Lined balls up the middle/other way, flashing power potential. 

 


Nick Franklin SS / 3B / Springstead , FL / 2024

Franklin possesses advanced size and strength. Strong, thick lower half with an athletic balance point and a loose, fairly quick arm over the top. Could be on the verge of a jump with the fluctuating velo.

Baylor Hicks RHP / OF / South Forsyth, GA / 2023

Uncommitted 2023. Projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 175. Pitched three shutout innings striking out 5. Fastball sat 80-83 mph. Showed feel for the breaking ball at 74-78 mph. 

 


Casey Lockwood C / 1B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Lockwood boasts a thick, filled out frame conducive of the catcher position. Swings a heavy bat as balls jump off the barrel and is comfortable going the other way as he can drive balls to all fields. Multiple barrels in gameplay. Uncommitted  

 


Zach Merriman OF / SS / Sunlake , FL / 2024

Merriman is very toolsy with quick twitch written all over the frame. Long with a chance to add on weight and can fly around the bases as well as track down balls in the gaps. Hit tool is coming along as he’s shown some barrel control. 

 


Nolan McClanahan 3B / OF / Merritt Island , FL / 2025

Past Junior futures game participant. Continues to put up mature at bats. Simple approach at the plate with an easy line drive swing. Shows ability to find the barrel and use the entire field. 

 


Augie Mojica RHP / 3B / Bishop McLaughlin, FL / 2022

Mojica has the athleticism to go along with the long frame. Solid chance to fill out with the quick twitch ability that plays on the diamond. Quiet stance and let’s the barrel do the work. Uncommitted two-way. 

 


Colin Sengkhounmany LHP / OF / East Lake, FL / 2022

Stocky, athletic frame. Loose, low effort delivery on the mound with a feel for pitching. Comfortable from wind up and stretch and throws all 3 pitches in any count. Mixed speeds well and K’d 7 in 6 IP. Uncommitted.


 

 


Alexander Sotiropoulos 3B / RHP / Tampa Prep, FL / 2024

Lean athletic frame at 6-foot-3,  185 pounds. Looks to have a made a jump with the fastball up to 83 mph now. Started on the mound for Hit Factory going three shutout innings and striking out four.

 

 


Clay Thompson OF / 3B / Jesuit, FL / 2023

Thompson showing a nice and smooth swing. Goes 1-2 on the day with a hard line drive to left field. Gets barrel to the ball with fast hands. 

 


Alek Trompke RHP / OF / Parrish , FL / 2022

Trompke boasts a long, lean 6-foot-3, 175 lb frame. Loose arm and efficient arm speed over the top. Stays on line to the plate and extends through the target. Showed some feel on the mound and worked a 3-pitch mix. Uncommitted.

Malachi Witherspoon C / OF / Duncan U. Fletcher , FL / 2022

Witherspoon puts together 2 great at bats including a loud line drive single to left field. Shows a quiet approach with good plate discipline.  

 


Hayden Yost OF / 1B / Sickles, FL / 2023

Yost continues to impress at the dish. He drives a ball to left center burning the outfielders for a bases clearing triple. He stays short to the ball with great barrel control and has tons of upside. Florida commit.
