Where Are They Now? 2018 Future Games

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

The PBR Future Games has become the biggest event in the country for uncommitted players. Each summer, each PBR state selects 20-25 uncommitted underclassmen to represent their home state at the Future Games. They participate in a showcase with games each of the next three days against three other states. The Future Games is flooded with college coaches in attendance to watch these uncommitted players with over 300 coaches in attendance in 2019.

The 2021 PBR Future Games has been set for July 28-31 at the all turf LakePoint Sports complex in Cartersville, GA. This year’s event will feature the top uncommitted 2023-2024 players representing their home state.

Florida joined the Future Games in 2017 with 18 players going on to committing to colleges. This Where Are They Now series will take a look back at all four of our PBR Florida Future Games teams from 2017-2020 and highlight where some of those players have committed and what they are doing now at the next level. Today, we will start with our 2018 Future Games team.

Where Are They Now?

2021 Bryce Braxton, 3B, Pasco

Braxton was one of two 2021s on the 2018 Future Games team. Braxton had a strong showing at the 2018 Underclass Games which earned him an invite to the 2018 PBR Future Games in Indy. A strong bodied third baseman, Braxton continued to stand out at the Future Games and eventually went on to land a commitment with Florida Atlantic University. After batting .328 with 21 RBI in his senior year at Pasco, Braxton prepares to head to FAU this fall.

2020 Chase Centala, RHP, Sickles - Florida

Centala has been one of the most successful stories from the 2018 Future Games where he dominated at the event. Shortly after the Future Games, Centala committed to USF. Centala later attended the Florida ProCase in 2019 and eventually flipped his commitment from USF to Florida. In his freshman year this year, Centala saw 12.2 innings on the mound for the Gators. He had an ERA of 2.13 with 9 strikeouts.

During his freshman year in 2021, Devito pitched 27 innings for the Green Wave. Devito struck out 29 batters in those innings and looks to be a big part of the rotation in 2022.

2020 Tyler Dowdy, 1B/RHP, Plant City - West Florida

Dowdy was a standout at the Underclass Games and earned a spot on Team Florida at the 2018 Future Games. On the mound, Dowdy went 7-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 85.1 innings. Offensively, Dowdy batted .273 with 9 hits and 5 RBI.
