2018 North Georgia Summer Trials: Class of 2020 Position Players

Blake Davis
Scouting Director

The North Georgia Summer Trials 2020 group of position players will be heading in their Junior campaigns this August.  All five of these prospects shows good baseball actions and ability to play on both sides of the ball, but every player will benefit in their own individual ways from adding strength. Will be excited to check back in with these players this spring to see who has taken a step forward.

Carson Bell 3B / 2B / River Ridge, GA / 2020

5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter shows loose and long actions in the box, with a straight away set-up and pull approach. He produces good bat-speed and over the fence pull power, also recording an 88 mph exit velo. Defensively, Bell has a live body with good actions. He moves his feet well laterally and hands work well out front. He showed an accurate arm while throwing 82 mph across the diamond. Bell profiles to an offensive infield position and strength gains will go a long in determining his prospect status.

Gauge Burkett SS / OF / Armuchee, GA / 2020

At 5-foot-8, 160-pounds Burkett is a low to the ground athlete with a bounce in his step. He shows live feet and quickness on the infield dirt. He has an accurate arm but will need to continue to build on his arm strength (72 mph across). At the plate, the right-handed hitter sets up straight away with high hands and incorporates a small load that produces leverage. Has sneaky pop off the bat with an exit velocity of 86 mph.  As he gets stronger and transfers more of his weight forward on contact, look for even more power to come.  Good baseball actions and has plenty of time to grow into added strength.

Cooper Krause C / OF / Pope , GA / 2020

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound catching prospect shows athletic compact actions behind the plate. He moves well laterally and has good flexibility. 73 mph arm strength can be improved upon, his quick athletic actions produced a solid pop times of 2.08-2.17. At the plate, the right-handed hitter utilizes the same simple, live actions, setting up straight away and using an all-fields approach. Krause showed good bat to ball skills and the ability to use the field. Projecting as a solid defensive catcher with feel for the bat, Krause will be an interesting one to follow.

Davis Livers C / Lassiter , GA / 2020

Coming in at 5-foot-9, 140-pounds, Livers shows good baseball actions both behind the plate and in the batters box. At the plate he sets-up straight away with an all fields approach. He lacks present strength and power, but the DNA of his swing and approach are what you are looking for. Defensively, the ball goes in his glove clean and he can stick a pitch. Will benefit from improving his arm strength (63 mph) and transfers. His fundamentals behind the plate are in place, and just needs to add strength to what he already does.

Joshua Tolson OF / RHP / Calhoun, GA / 2020

At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds, Tolson shows some fast twitch strength at the plate out of a athletic straight away stance. The right-handed hitter uses a slow draw with a lower hand set to start, and is surprisingly short to the baseball with his slight arm bar. Tolson shows feel for the barrel and ability to hit the ball to all fields. Defensively, he shows good actions and fluid movements in the outfield, while he ran a 6.83 60-yard dash. He will benefit from strength gains with both power and arm strength.
