Staff

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Head Coach Dalton Martinez and the Alexander Cougars return an experienced bunch as they look to make noise in region 5-5A. Leading the way for the club is sophomore two-way Matthew Westbrook, a top ten player in the state for the '27 class. Anchoring the rotation as the ace of the staff, Westbrook is a true power arm that should live in the low 90s this spring with more to come. A gamer type on the mound, the RHP shows present pitchability that allows him to work deep into games and give the club top-notch innings. As well as locking down an outfield spot when not on the mound and providing a thump with the stick in the heart of the order. Filling out another rotation spot is junior Jayden Whittlesey, a lean 5-foot-10 RHP with a quick athletic arm. Whittlesey was in the upper 80s this fall with obvious projection remaining and grants the Cougars with yet another power arm. Senior RHP Peyton Clower polishes off the rotation and compliments the likes of Westbrook and Whittlesey nicely. Bringing forth a veteran presence to the group with clear pitchability. 2025 SS Joshua Sellers and 2025 1B Caleb Blanks hold senior leadership and issue reliable sticks to the offense. Sellers also supplies the infield defense with a strong glove up the middle. Senior Micah Green is a prototypical lead-off bat reaching base at a high clip, in addition to securing the outfield defense in CF with a strong defensive profile. Junior two-way David Jackson Jr. has substantial upside remaining within the profile. An XL frame at 6-foot-5, 186-pounds with huge power upside at the plate. On the mound the lefty has been up to 90 this fall with more in the tank and bolsters the bullpen as the top option. Junior Jesse Williams and sophomore Jackson Lewachowicz will man duties behind the plate as the catching battery. Williams holds a high contact rate at the plate and gives the lineup another dependable bat. Two juniors consisting of RHP/3B Nathan Cromey and LHP Ethan Lower round out the backend of the bullpen. Cromey, a mid-80s arm has plenty of projection remaining within a physical 6-foot-4 frame. Plus holding down the hot corner and presenting a steady bat. Lower is a crafty lefty armed with a fastball in the low-80s with room to jump. Sophomore Ethan Williams that will be a spark plug type player with good speed that will be able to contribute in many different ways. This is a gritty group that has all the makings to go on a run come late April.
