2025 Georgia Preview: Cartersville Purple Hurricanes
February 6, 2025
The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.
Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.
*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK
Coach Tucker and the Hurricanes will be back in full force in 2025 with some big pieces returning and a couple that they were without last season. The pitching staff is going to be strong with 2 committed seniors in Avery Shiflett and Logan Shrewsbury. Shiflett will be headed to Kennesaw State next year and will be back after missing the 2024 season. He will be the ace for the squad and has some of the best pitch ability in the state. He has always been really polished and will look to grow even more in 2025. Shrewsbury will head to Columbus State, and is a mid to upper 80’s righty that will be crucial in the rotation this spring. Junior Nate Russell will round out the rotation with a ton of innings already thrown in high school career. He is one of the top uncommitted juniors in the state and will look to have another big year for the Hurricanes. Alabama commit Andrew Purdy is going to be the leader of this group. He will be the catalyst in the line up and be a big arm out of the pen that will be called on in the reliever role, as well as the closer role. Tristan McKibben and Cameron Cochran are going to be 2 seniors that are going to need to help lead this line up in 2025. They have both saw a lot of AB’s in their high school career and will look to have a big senior year to close out their high school career. Southern Union commit Maddox Frazier will also be a really big piece in the line up. Wabash Valley commit, Julez Pratt and sophomore Cole Crawford will split time behind the plate. Pratt has really developed over the last year or so and Crawford has always been a big name in the 2027 class. Junior Cooper Adams is going to be a player to keep an eye on. We got a chance to see him over the fall and he had a really strong performance. He is a good runner and will be a tough out at the plate. Freshman David Vargas is going to be a name to follow over the next few years. He is an underclass candidate that could have a shot to play at a young age. At the end of the day Coach Tucker has established one of the top programs in the state and knows how to win games. Keep an eye on them to make another run in 2025.
