2025 Georgia Preview: Coffee Trojans

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

New head coach Scott Grove brings an extensive and highly impressive background that includes time with USA baseball, a HS national championship, and a robust 555 wins up from Florida, and into South Georgia aiming to take this loaded Trojans roster back to the state playoffs once again. “Coffee Boyz” retained deep talent on both sides, and it starts with senior leader and SP1 in RHP Michael Strickland. The Mercer commit had a breakout junior campaign and could be poised for more in 2025 with a strong three-pitch mix and help at the plate as well. Another Mercer commit in junior SS/RHP Ben Fussell has been on an upward trajectory since middle school, and now finds himself as a bonafide leader on this Trojans ballclub with an impressive toolset to match that’s led by both an above-average bat and glove in the middle infield. A pair of committed seniors in CF Brax Carson and 3B Connor Stewart provide quality experience paired with big-time juice in the middle of the lineup that rounds out a stout front half of the lineup. There will be a quality crop of sophomores who will be looked upon for considerable roles this spring with 2B Taeven Harden and RHP/OF Gavin McElroy leading the pack. The duo look for a chance to thrive in everyday roles, with McElroy also being a big piece on the mound. Underclass depth continues with C Eli Vickers, as another sophomore tasked with a big role, as he looks to be the everyday catcher for the Trojans and OF/RHP Evan Lingenfelter will be an asset across the outfield and in the bullpen. If you're looking for a potential breakout for Coffee this spring, look no further than RHP Carter McMillan. Quickly filling out an XL 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame while looking at a potential rotation spot this spring, the uncommitted junior could be the x-factor for this squad in what looks to be another tough schedule. Coffee brings back real talent in all the right places with a distinct winning culture at the helm. Don’t be surprised when you see another 25+ win spring from the Trojans on the way.
