2025 Georgia Preview: Etowah Eagles

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Coach Greg Robinson and the Eagles parlayed high expectations last year into a dominant 6A state championship season and come into this spring with the pieces to match those lofty expectations once again. The duo of 2024 Prep Baseball All-American junior RHP Matthew Sharman and senior LHP Jackson Rose headline the rotation while presenting one of the best 1-2 punches in the state and could have even more to offer this spring. The outfield for the Eagles brings two of the top juniors in the class in Deion Cole and Trevor Condon, who come off both huge spring and summer campaigns while earning Power 4 commitments and will be real leaders for this squad as upperclassmen. The infield will be replacing some important pieces but offer some high-level underclassmen the chance to make a huge impact early. Freshman 3B Colin Anderson is a top-10 ranked player in the country for the 2028 class, offering a highest-level power ceiling with ability to stick at the hot corner from opening day. Sophomore SS/RHP Jackson Norwood emerged this past summer as an impact player, flashing impressive tools in an XL frame and could find himself in a major role for the eagles this spring both in the lineup and in the bullpen. Sophomore Caden Borcherding is the #1 C in Georgia’s 2027 class with a premium defensive profile and budding impact with a bat that has taken massive strides from last year. Another sophomore in MIF/OF Nate Curcio will be one to watch this spring as he can offer quality positional flexibility and athleticism in the lineup. Good depth in the bullpen, albeit being unproven and will have to grow quickly but have the talent to handle a tough region once again. This team is as talented on paper as you’ll see in the state with the makeup and ability to match it on the diamond. Look for the Eagles to be nationally ranked coming into the spring and aiming for dogpile season once again.
