2025 Georgia Preview: Lovejoy Wildcats

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Wildcats come into 2025 returning an experienced group with hopes of earning a playoff bid. Leading the way for Lovejoy as part of a strong senior class is 1B/3B Anthony Finkley Jr.. The senior shows really intriguing underlying metrics with premium bat-speed that measures at 81.9, coupled with clocking at a 6.85-60. Coming off a junior campaign where he hit .476, Finkley Jr. looks poised to once again power the offense and provide a thump in the heart of the order. Senior captain Larry Floyd returns to pace the lineup at the top after hitting .356 with an OBP of .578 last season. As well as securing the infield defense up the middle, while also being a top option in the bullpen. A pair of seniors consisting of MIF/OF Tykwon Carpenter and OF Jordan King will be relied upon to contribute steady bats to the line-up. Senior C/RHP Tre’vun Florence holds a strong defensive profile behind the plate paired with yielding an impactful bat to the offensive attack. In addition to giving the club quality innings out of the bullpen. A duo of two-ways consisting of junior RHP/IF Prince Ford and sophomore RHP/UTL Evan Shaw solidify the starting rotation, along with being key factors in the line-up. In a region with some heavyweights such as Newnan and McIntosh among others, it’s not going to be easy to get to the playoffs but Lovejoy has some intriguing pieces that could push them over the hump.
