2025 Georgia Preview: Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Yellow Jackets will have Sy Jones as their head coach headed into the 2025 season. Coach Jones came from Coffee, where he had great success and plans to do much of the same at Thomas County Central. He comes into a talented group that made a big splash in the state playoffs last season. We were lucky enough to be in attendance at the St. Pius X series and identified some of the state's top talent that was recently at Preseason All-State. Senior Brayden Payne will be the leader in the clubhouse. He is one of the top short stops in the 2025 class and is still uncommitted. He is going to be a big pick up for a college program. Reid Gainous is set to have another breakout season both on the mound and at the plate. He will be their ace on the mound getting the ball in all the big games. The 2024 Future Gamer has made some big strides since the summer and we could see him into the low 90’s later in the year. Coach Jones has a really talented junior class and the next guy will also contribute on the mound and at the dish. That is Dallas Pitts, he is a great compliment to Gainous as he is a low 80’s strike throwing lefty that will be a bullpen saver anytime he is on the mound. Next on the list is another 2 way player, Nolen Taylor. He will see time behind the dish and on the mound. He is a hard nose, competitor type player that fills it up on the mound and is a tough out at the plate. Landon Walsh and Zach Williams will be 2 more juniors that will see considerable innings and be big pieces for the Yellow Jackets. One of our biggest risers in the 2027 class has been Dominic McCann. He had a breakout playoffs series, where he handled 2 division 1 arms with ease and really impressed. He will see time behind the dish and in the infield. Hudson Williams is going to be another sophomore that has a chance to make a real impact with the bat. He continues to get stronger and climb the ranks in the 2027 class. All together Coach Jones has the ingredients for another successful season and should be excited for years to come with the talent coming through in south Georgia.
