2025 Georgia Preview: Walton Raiders

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Despite graduating two D-1 starting pitchers and an SEC catcher from last year’s playoff club, Walton brings back the bulk of the starting lineup to help navigate what appears to be one of the more competitive regions in 6A. It begins with the left-side of the infield for the Raiders where a pair of committed seniors in SS Jackson Taylor and Parker Dastou will highlight the lineup with impressive bat-to-ball and sneaky raw pop that should fit it nicely at the 2 and 3 holes. Uncommitted junior OF Walker Killimett has the prototype leadoff profile with above-average hit and run tools that put constant pressure on opposing teams as well as likely being the defensive leader in CF. A pair of juniors in 1B Todd Haley and OF Devin Krohn provide the glue for this Raiders lineup, bringing a track record of timely hitting while earning great experience the past two years. Senior C William Crowell has possibly the biggest shoes to fill but brings a high-floor profile to give Walton a dependable option while freshman C Dominic Rossy is also likely to get his feet wet this upcoming spring. Pitching will be nothing to scoff at either with three seniors likely filling out the starting rotation, led by RHP Hyland Brown and dual-sport Wofford commit RHP Kaeden Gilstrap. Junior RHP Westin Chen will be a major factor in the Raiders bullpen as well as fellow junior RHP Logan Wideman, who will also be a massive power source for the offense. Battling the likes of Cherokee, North Paulding and defending 6A state champion Etowah for a region crown won’t be easy, but Coach Amos has talent and will be ready for another 25+ win season.
