2025 Georgia Preview: Washington County Golden Hawks

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

TEAM OUTLOOK

In 2024, the Golden Hawks won a region title and made it into the second round of the state playoffs. Heading into this season the entire pitching staff returns along with some key top of the order bats, as another playoff berth seems to be in the cards. At the forefront of the rotation is Auburn commit Ty Mobley. An ultra-physical, power arm from the right-side at 6-foot-6, 232-pounds. On the bump, Mobley shows an advanced pitchability with heavy swing-and-miss stuff. As well as holding down first base and providing a thump at the plate as one of the main pieces in the lineup for the Golden Hawks. Behind Mobley in the rotation is 2026 RHP Mack May and 2025 RHP/SS Brayden Lanthrip. Both compiled strong seasons on the mound last year, and they look to build upon them heading into this Spring. Lanthrip also secures the infield defense at shortstop and provides senior leadership to the line-up. After hitting .440 and earning 1st team All-State honors a year ago, OF Christian Rountree returns for his senior year as a driving force in the middle of the order. Rountree is a versatile component to the team’s success in many aspects. Holding a strong defensive profile while tying up the outfield defense. Along with being the top option out of the bullpen. The number #7 ranked player in our class of 2028 rankings, OF Rylan Jenkins, brings his dynamic hit/speed combo to the top of the order. Jenkins is already a plus runner with a present budding hit-tool, and will be an impact name in the state for the coming years. Junior OF Trey Cannida brings forth experience and a steady middle of the order bat. With the returning experience and the overall team makeup, it is very possible that Washington County could be en route to another 25 + win season in 2025.
