2025 Preseason All-State Primer: Underclass

Ian Smith
Assistant Scouting Director

The Preseason All-State week is something that our staff greatly looks forward to every year, and this year could be the most special yet.

We are back at the tremendous IVSA training facility in Flowery Branch for year two and couldn't be thankful to have such a high-level venue to host an event like this, especially being fully indoors in January. This is the premier event of the preseason for Prep Baseball company-wide, offering a great opportunity to see a wide-range of talent as we begin the spring follow season.

Last year’s event marked the biggest day in our brief history at the time, and this weekend is set to blow that out of the water.

Let’s look at some baseline numbers…

  • Over 250+ players across two days
  • 100+ Uncommitted players in the 2025 and 2026 classes
  • Multiple Top 20 players across every class from ‘25 to ‘28, including eight of the top 10 players in the 2027 class.

Now let’s look at the underclass group with a positional breakdown..

Class of 2027

Catchers

One of the deepest groups in attendance featuring six of the top 7 in the class and 12 in the Top 20.

Caden Borcherding, Etowah
The #1 catcher in the 2027 class is coming off a highly successful freshman year that included a state championship and an opportunity with USA Baseball. Premier defensive profile for Borcherding with top-of-the-class pop-times and receiving will be on full display on Saturday. Known for outstanding work ethic, highly anticipating what the sophomore will look like after the off-season.

Daniel Biondo, Denmark

Beau Bruns, Cherokee Bluff
Bruns will look to contribute as a sophomore at Cherokee Bluff after losing their catcher to graduation.

Bryce Carter, Parkview

Gunner Fokken, Carrollton
Fokken will be versatile athlete in his sophomore year at Carrollton both behind the plate and on the mound. He has added some considerable strength and size over the last year. Look for him to have a breakout year for the Trojans.

Jakob Gonzalez, East Coweta

Jackson Gore, Mount Paran

Lee Holt, King’s Ridge Christian
A huge winner at this event last year and one of the top catchers in the class, Holt offers big-time projection at 6-foot-3, 175-pounds. Present plus arm strength and raw power really strengthen the profile as well as two-way upside on the mound where he will likely be mid-to-high 80s with 3 pitches.

Matthew Lane Jr., Jones County

Dominic McCann, Thomas County Central

Leland McCook, Greenbrier

Kyle Montgomery, Lassiter

Rhett Morgan, Southeast Bulloch

Conor Nix, Berrien

Klint Robinson, Walnut Grove

Jack Simmons, Marist

Layton Sowinski, Harlem

Luke Winbush, Pope
After starting as a freshman for the perennial powerhouse, Pope and following it with a stellar summer/fall circuit, the sophomore 3B/C is trending way up as we move into 2025. Well-rounded profile with a budding hit tool and outstanding glove at two premium defensive homes. First time getting to see Winbush in this setting is exciting, and we expect the sophomore to be a big factor for the Greyhounds again this spring.

Corner Infield

Hudson Chadwick, Calhoun

Liam Collier, Locust Grove
The #1 1B in the 2027 class, Collier provides one of the stronger present hit tools you’ll see in the class. All-fields approach from the left-side and began to flash some budding raw power in the fall, especially to the pull-side and will be intriguing to see if there has been any more strides made after a full off-season.

Hamilton Downs, McCallie School (Tn)

Bobby Frierson, St. Pius X

Cason Gantt, Sequoyah

Braxton Glaze, King’s Ridge Christian

Miller Greene, Peach County

Jayzen Johnson, Lumpkin County

Jameson Jones, Mountain View

Davis Morrison, Pace Academy

Brantley Patch, Model

Everett Perkins, Cedertown

Carter Rath, Lambert

Aden Rucker, Carrollton

James Sharp, Fellowship Christian

Travis Wallace, Denmark
Wallace was a big winner for us back in the fall at a scout day for USA Scout. A physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with some projection remaining and loud raw tools showing. Bat speed and feel for the barrel stood out while showing some arm strength both across the infield and on the mound. Denmark is loaded with talent in the 26 and 27 classes, and Wallace has a chance to be in the middle of it.

Hunter Williams, Mill Creek

Middle Infield

Three premier SS/RHP highlight the list in Harry Jones Jr, Hayes Maginnis, and Isaiah Galason with big-time depth behind them including multiple dual-sport athletes.

Tristan Arrowood, Haralson County

Connor Bok, Marist

Tyler Bright, New Manchester

Malachi Butler, McEachern
Already firmly inside the top-20 overall in the state, Butler is on a sky-high trajectory and looking for even more with his sophomore campaign. Athletic and projectable at 6-foot, 165-pounds, the middle-infielder made big strides while starting at SS as a freshman while showing flashes of both above-average hit tool and glove ceilings.

Noah Caubo, Carrollton

Ian Chafin, Buford

Brady Flesner, Mill Creek

Isaiah Galason, Houston County
Galason exploded on the scene in 2024, hitting over .300 as a freshman for Houston County then being a big standout at Top Prospect Games, showing huge two-way potential. Athletic at 5-foot-10, 155-pounds with explosive arm talent in the infield and on the bump where he's been into the low-90s at both. Leadoff type with great bat-to-ball skills that paired with present hand and bat speed.

Patrick Hassan, North Oconee

Calloway Holmes, Cambridge

Dylan Honore, Hillgrove

Andres Jimenez, Parkview
Another high-level two-way profile among this infield group, Jimenez made big strides in every facet of his game in 2024, and could be in-line a big role this upcoming spring. Physical at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Jimenez has begun to show real pull-side pop from a well-leverage left-handed cut with tools to stick on the left-side of the dirt. Up to the mid-to-high 80s on the bump as well with feel for a quality three pitch mix.

Ryan Johansen, Buford

Kylen Jones, Carrollton

Harry “Chubb” Jones Jr., McEachern

Hayes Maginnis, Newnan

Jackson Norwood, Etowah

Dawkins Parker, Lowndes

Ian Robertson, Walton

Brody Spann, Strong Rock Christian

Jake Spurlin, Tift County

Asher Stephens, Gainesville

Jack Walsh, Blessed Trinity

Ethan Wheeler, Habersham Christian
Wheeler really burst onto the scene this fall after stacking quality performances for USA Scout. Athletic, broad shouldered frame at 6-foot-0, 175-pounds with quality actions up the middle in the dirt. Budding hit tool with the willingness to use the whole field and spoil good pitching.

Jaylen Whiteside, Marietta

Connor Ymbras, Blessed Trinity

Outfield

The #1 player in the class, Caden Dawson highlights the group with names like Caleb Hudson and Eli Primm, among others looking to lock in after big years on the gridiron.

Evan Bansavage, Lambert

Braylon Bowles, Rabun Gap

Caden Dawson, Blessed Trinity
This event last year was my first live look at Dawson, and it became clear very quickly that this is the most advanced hitter in the class. Standing at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, it’s effortless bat speed paired with ability to match plane and present above-average raw power. In-game production matches the tools and ceiling only continues to rise.

Hunter Dillard, East Paulding

Pearce Henry, Maynard Jackson

Brady Hester, Blessed Trinity

Brock Holcombe, Lakeside

Caleb Hudson, Carrollton

Brody Hurd, Buford

Chase Jones, Georgia Premier Academy

Carson Klinger, Peachtree Ridge

Braden Little, Gordon Lee

Caden McGhee, Cherokee

John Paolino, Hillgrove

Eli Primm, Jefferson
The 2022 Junior Future Games alum has grown significantly the past few years and now stands a stout 5-foot-9, 175-pound with plus athleticism and sneaky strength throughout. Hit tool made big strides over the summer, showing some great length in-zone and ability to utilize the whole field. One of the looks I'm most excited for on the weekend.

Carson Reeves, Buford

Jaylen Seabrooks, Shiloh

Drew Williams, Sequoyah

Ethan Williams, Alexander

Hudson Williams, Thomas County Central
One of the winners back in the fall at the South Georgia ID, Williams is a budding power bat for TCC at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds and could be an impact player as early as this spring. Ball jumps off the barrel with present bat speed and leverage that generates significant pull-side carry.

Samuel Wilson, Walton

Nathan Worsham, Houston County

Pitchers

RHP Andrew Brech, Mountain View

LHP Connor Bridges, Greenbrier

RHP Riley Castaneda, Flowery Branch

RHP Braxton Chandler, South Paulding

RHP Trip Fowler, Greenbrier

RHP Tyson Ganas, Houston County

RHP Jack Johnson, Harrison
I’ve grown bullish on the upside for Johnson throughout the summer and fall as the profile just continued to grow in so many facets. Low effort 87-91 with ride, paired with a developing breaking ball and potential for an above-average changeup. Frame is durable at 6-foot-1, 197-pounds with strength throughout and really repeats well. Tools to show in the OF as well with big-time bat speed and quickly growing power potential.

RHP Conner Paist, Evans

RHP Mason Peek, Calhoun

RHP Landon Rawlins, Cherokee Bluff

RHP JJ Sims, Mill Creek

RHP Noah Strickland, Stephens County

RHP Matthew Westbrook, Alexander
With the departure of Terrance Bowen, Matthew Westbrook becomes the dude for Alexander and has the tools to fill that role. Physical 6-foot-2 frame with huge arm strength from a compact arm action. Westbrook has been in the low-90s before and has a chance to be one of the hardest throwers on Saturday. High-70s SL has quickly grown into a weapon and the changeup continues to develop. Not to mention, Westbrook has an above-average glove at 1B with huge raw power as well.

Class of 2028

Two of the top catchers in the class in Dominic Rossy and Gavin Boykin highlight while some former JFGers and I.D series standouts look to make more impact as we head into their freshman spring.

Catchers

Gavin Boykin, Hillgrove

Brody Lutz, West Forsyth

Jackson Nelson, Lambert

Christian Osborne, Pierce County

Graham Reker, Woodward

Dominic Rossy, Walton
The 2024 Junior Future Games participant and top catcher in Georgia’s 2028 has a path to playing time come freshman year for Walton, and that stems from monster projection and power in the 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. Athleticism in the crouch stands out and already shows present arm strength with accuracy.

Owen Shipley, Sonoraville

Drew Steinemann, Walton

Landon Taylor, Thomas County Central

Connor Tysver, St Pius X

Corner Infield

Colin Anderson, Etowah
#2 in the class and Top 10 in the country, Colin Anderson has all of the makings of a future star on the left-side of the dirt. Huge power potential at 6-foot-0, 180-pounds that’s shown up consistently in-game and even more to come. Sub 7.0 runner as well with quality arm strength and lateral range that bodes well for a long-term home at the hot corner.

Joey Martincavage, Blessed Trinity

Peyton Osheaski, Gainesville
One of the pure power prospects in the 2028 class, and coming from both sides of the ball. Already 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and still just 14, Osheaski offers lean strength throughout and ability to tap into it frequently. Loose hands create great length in-zone with ability to snap the barrel and drive balls pull-side. The real ceiling could be on the mound where he’s been up to 90 with a good curveball and chance for a solid changeup. The ceiling has a chance to be high.

Cole Roberts, Walnut Grove

Middle Infield

The 3rd ranked player in the class provides instant impact for this group with multiple top 20 players to follow and some of the best all-around depth we will see all day.

Brody Conner, Mount Paran

Nicolas Culotta, Walnut Grove

Brady Fountain, Oconee County

Lio Garcia, Buford
Regardless of position, Lio Garcia has the top glove in the class and it also happens to be that he’s a shortstop that could open up as the starter for the powerhouse Buford. Limitless range in all directions with a vacuum of a glove allows Garcia to make tough plays look routine already. Bat-to-ball skills are present while showing sneaky juice that generates some loud barrels.

Gavin Gebhardt, Cambridge

Drake Hughey, Calhoun

Kingston Jones, Pope

Zach Koons, Greater Atlanta Christian

Max Maher, Walton

Anson Nguyen, Capstone Academy

Tripp Sapp, Loganville

Tripp Swords, Eastside
Swords went from a strong performance at Central Georgia Summer I.D into a good showing at Junior Future Games, and the rest of the summer. Athletic at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds with good range at SS and budding power at the plate, especially to the pull-side.

Micah Von, Lakeside

Aiden Watson, Denmark

Colton Whittington, Stratford Academy

Bradley Willingham, Central
Willingham shined on our trip to the West Georgia Fall I.D, showing a well-rounded profile. A steeper, well-leveraged barrel drove balls into both gaps with carry. Moves well in the dirt with accuracy from multiple angles only for the arm to play up.

Ryan Wilson, Westlake

Outfield

Kamran Choudary-Ali, Hillgrove

Josiah Davis, Cherokee

Brooks DeRosa, North Gwinnett

Junwoo Jang, North Gwinnett

Daelen Jones-Teasley, Parkview

Graham Langan, Cherokee

Pitchers

RHP Trent Harrison, Central

RHP Wesley Thiry, Norcross

LHP Cal Williamson, North Atlanta
I got my first look at Williamson this fall and it was impossible not to be impressed. Imposing 6-foot-4 frame with some funk from a lower three-quarters slot. Heavy mid-80s fastball with consistent sink and run, plus much more to come. Curveball is coming along and the advanced feel for the changeup at 73-75 has the look of a future out pitch. One of the top LHP in the class looks to start his freshman year strong.

RHP Brantley Willis, Pierce County
