Senior Superlatives: Top 2020 LHH

It has been a busy few weeks for Prep Baseball Report and PBR Georgia regarding the Class of 2020 and the approaching 2020 MLB Draft. First, we had the update of the 2020 National Rankings, with Georgia being well-represented, followed by the combined High School, Junior College and College 2020 Draft Board. Today, and extending over the next few weeks, we are going to dive into the 2020 Georgia rankings and give our take on the prospects who possess the top tools in the state. We start with the top left-handed bats.

Top Left-Handed Hitters

Corey Collins C / 1B / North Gwinnett, GA / 2020

Unfortunately for Collins, his time on the summer scene was cut short due to an arm injury, so scouts weren’t able to see the North Gwinnett backstop as much as they would have liked. Still, Collins, like Walker, proved to own one of the best bats in the state during a huge spring. He swings a powerful left-handed bat and has been able to demonstrate his serious power potential in gameplay throughout his high school career. He has arm strength from behind the plate (when he’s healthy, of course), and is even a good enough athlete to slot into an outfield corner. Pro scouts are going to spend the spring catching up on Collins, as well as his high school teammate Josh Shuler, as the two work to lead North Gwinnett to another 7A title.

Hudson Sapp OF / Dawson County, GA / 2020

Opened the PBR National Championships with a bang, showing off his quick, compact and balanced left-handed swing when he smoked a triple that was 100 mph off the bat. He later showed off his athleticism by beating out an infield single, getting down the line in 4.08 seconds. At 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, Sapp has a strong, compact frame with quick-twitch explosiveness.

 

Garrett Howe SS / 2B / Hebron Christian, GA / 2020

The first thing you notice about him is his hands, they are noticeably big and strong on contact, just like most good hitters. He shows an excellent straight away set-up and balance at the plate, with a short direct path. His elbow is cocked and his hands show rhythm. He had very good takes live and a displayed knowledge of his zone. In terms of hitters actions, Howe has the look and feel of a kid that is looking to do damage, but is going to make a pitcher come to him.

Josh Shuler OF / North Gwinnett, GA / 2020

Rankings  StateRank: 4 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 120 / POS: 21

Shuler is a well-documented talent from North Gwinnett with real left-handed power. He'll be heavily scouted this spring because of his frame and power potential. Shuler carries a strong profile with the tools for his corner outfield spot.
