PBR Georgia Staff

Emerson, GA
- Early season action continued at LakePoint Sports Complex as North Cobb Christian (1-0) opened their year against Paulding County (1-1). After an early lead for Paulding County, the North Cobb Christian Eagles broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning. The Eagles took their opener by a score of 11-4.

Both teams received competitive starts from their pitchers to keep the game tight in the early goings. North Cobb Christian’s Wesley Moore (2022) battled in his three innings of work. The Kennesaw State commit sat 83-85, touching 86 with the fastball and mixing in a 76-77 mph breaking ball. Moore picked up four strikeouts.

Uncommitted 2021 RHP Mason Tanner showed an improved arsenal from the summer, as he sat 82-85, touching 86, while working around the strike zone to challenge the Eagle’s hitters. Tanner logged 4.2 IP, while striking out four hitters.

After the Eagles struck first in the top of the first inning, Paulding County answered with an RBI sacrifice fly from uncommitted 2021 catcher Colin Hynek. Hynek took some solid at-bats throughout the game, and has power potential to keep an eye on.

Down one run in the top of the fourth, North Cobb Christian took the lead, and never looked back, thanks to a big two-run homerun from uncommitted 2022 OF Lukas Farris. Farris’ homerun left the bat at 101 mph, while traveling 381 feet to right-center field. Farris added to his day with a linedrive single in his last at-bat, as well.

The Eagles pushed across eight additional runs in the top of the fifth inning to propel them to a victory on their Opening Day.

Two highlights from the NCC bullpen were uncommitted 2023 Blake Dean, and 2021 Alabama-Birmingham recruit Aidan Moza. Dean threw two innings of stellar relief, while continuing to make large strides in overall feel on the mound. Fastball sat 85-86, touching 87. Dean’s breaking ball also continues to stand out at 70-74 with a spin rate of 2530 rpm.

Moza, while only working one inning to close the game out, showed his usual stuff on the mound. His fastball sat 89-91, which is the highest we have seen from the PBR Future Games alum. Moza’s sharp breaking ball has always been a differentiator, and continues to impress at 77-78 and a spin rate of 2900 rpm.

North Cobb Christian returns to LakePoint Friday and Saturday in the Georgia Dugout Club Week 1 tournament. Paulding County will look to rebound against Villa Rica at home.
