Pickens vs Sonoraville
February 25, 2020

Pickens, GA- On Tuesday night I got to take a look at the newly renovated Pickens High School baseball field. Coach Adam Williams now has one of the top facilities in the state, and is striving to build strong baseball culture in North Georgia. The 6-1 Dragons took on the 2-1 Sonoraville Phoenix. Senior right-handed pitcher, Colby James of Pickens (Oglethorpe commit) took on fellow senior, Trent Walker of Sonoraville. Both pitchers had three quick innings with little action, and we were in the fourth within thirty minutes of the game starting.

Tanner Folds (Penn State commit) led off the top of the 5th with a double. Blade Bryant would later single to give Sonoraville the 1-0 lead. Bryant had a solid night at the plate going 2-2 with a RBI. Trent Walker took the Phoenix through the 5th without giving up a run. He forced contact, and commanded the ball down in the zone, most of his outs came from fly balls. Colby James kept the Dragons in the game. He managed to tally up 14 strikeouts, and went on to throw a complete game. He can really spin the curveball, he was able to throw it for a strike whenever he needed to.

There was not much going for the Pickens offense until the top of the 6th. Hunter White led off the inning with a single. Tyler Vreeland would follow him up with a single of his own. Andrew College commit, Chad Pacas put a good swing on a ball, but just got under it. It was hit to deep center, which allowed the runners on base to tag. Colby James was up with one out with runners in scoring position. The starting pitcher decided to take matters into his own hands, and send a fly ball to left that allowed White to tag, and tie the game 1-1.

It looked like we may be going into extra innings, but the Dragons had other plans. They were able to get the first two batters on base in the bottom of the 7th to bring up the strongest piece in their line-up, Brady Moore. The Coastal Carolina commit was 0-3 on the day, but this situation could make up for it. Moore is a three-sport athlete with loads of athleticism, and an elite swing. This is the type of moment he lives for. With runners on first and second he unloads on the ball, and sends a line drive down the left field line to score the winning run.

Pickens walked it off on Sonoraville to secure the 2-1 victory. The Dragons improve to 7-1, and the Phoenix fall to 2-2. They will square off again on Thursday in Calhoun, Georgia. Sonoraville takes on Cartersville at LakePoint on Wednesday. They look to bounce back, and get ready for the rematch against Pickens.

Wyatt Castoe of Sonoraville is high-follow for this spring season. The College of Charleston commit is an elite defender, and has the
