Deep South Invite: Quick Hits (GA)

Blake Davis
State Director

On Sunday, September 30 the Deep South Invite was held at Auburn University as some of the best players from Alabama and Georgia were in attendance. The players went through a pro style workout in the morning followed by game play. Over the next few days we will be releasing a ton of content from the event, including an individual scout blog for each player in attendance. The scout blogs will be released by position. Today, let’s take a quick look at the "Deep South Dozen" from the event.

Will Fincher OF / SS / Kennesaw Mountain, GA / 2022

Fincher is coming off and excellent summer with the Titans and did not disappoint at the Deep South. At 6-foot-2 Fincher has a very athletic frame with room for more strength.  Fincher is not yet a polished hitter and uses his pure athleticism to get the job done.  He is an elite runner with projectable defensive skills on defensive and offensive tools.

Tristan Nguyen LHP / OF / Johnson, GA / 2022

Nguyen is a sturdy built left-handed pitcher that has an impressive 2 pitch mix. His fastball sat in the low 80's, flashing hand side life. His breaking ball has solid tilt and shows strong feel for landing the two-planed pitch. Nguyen shows an aggressive approach and will pitch to both sides of the plate.

Nico Senese SS / OF / East Coweta, GA / 2022

Senese just keeps getting better and has the frame to keep projecting strength.  He has a polished approach at the plate working up the middle with good balance and the ability to stay inside the baseball. His defensive actions are in place and his hands work.

Taylor Shultz

SS / Allatoona, GA / 2022                                 Rankings  StateRank: 28 / POS: 6

Shultz had another strong showing at the Deep South.  The medium framed middle infielder showed a strong approach and as he always has an advanced glove.

Eric Snow SS / Mary Persons, GA / 2022

Snow checked in at 5-foot-10 Snow did not nothing but barrel baseballs Sunday.  Solid actions defensively, this is a hitter to watch closely going forward.

Braxton Roop RHP / McIntosh, GA / 2021

The athletic medium framed Roop showed well at the Deep South.  Running his fastball up to 88 mph and flashing feel for spinning and landing his breaking ball. The McIntosh High School ace is set for a spring Spring on the south side of Atlanta.

Kendall Clark RHP / 3B / Westlake, GA / 2021

Clark has an ideal pitchers frame at 6-foot-2, 155-pounds.  His wingspan and extension give him an added advantage when delivering the baseball.  Clark is still in the projection stage, but everything works clean with good natural life on his fastball.  He topped out at 81 here, but it is not a stretch to see more in the future.  Clark has feel for what he is doing and flashes the ability to spin the baseball. Good looking athletic projectable arm that needs strength and mound time.

Dominick Scalese SS / RHP / Wesleyan School, GA / 2023

Scalese is an impressive young prospect. At 6-foot he shows good infield actions and plenty of present and projectable tools to get excited about. Scalese looks like a future strong defender with ability at the plate.

Parker Marlatt RHP / 2B / Hebron Christian, GA / 2023

Super young rising freshman Marlatt was impressive in his work on the mound.  Running his fastball up to 83 and showing good feel for a breaking ball.  Will be a fun one to track over the coming years.

Garrett Garner

OF / RHP / Franklin County, GA / 2023           Rankings  StateRank: 24 / POS: 3

Garner is a good looking young two-way prospect from Franklin County, GA. Garner shows good leverage at the plate, while flashing good arm strength with his 87 mph velocity from the outfield.  Will be a close follow for PBR Georgia forward.

Brycen Jewell C / RHP / Jefferson , GA / 2020

 (**Committed to Lee University**)

The medium framed athletic Jewell has always been an intersting mound prospect, but Jewell showed well behind the plate Sunday and has next level potential as a position player.  But He also doubled down on his ability on the mound, flashing an improved breaking ball that had a spin rate of over 2900 rpm's.

Mahkai Pelzer C / SS / Chapel Hill, GA / 2021

Pelzer checked in at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds.  He is a good looking athlete who shows strength at the plate.  Defensively Pelzer is a very interesting next level prospect and will be a close follow over the next two years.
