Georgia Position by Position Analysis from the Deep South Invite: Outfielders

Some impressive numbers and skills were shown by the group of outfielders from Georgia that showed up for the Deep South Invite. The following is a brief write-up on each one in attendance.

Chandler Hicks OF / C / Alcovy, GA / 2020

Hicks is a well built athlete at 6-foot-1 180-pounds, he moves well and shows solid actions on the baseball field. At the plate Hicks shows some live twitch, posting and event high of 90 MPH exit velocity. He has a balanced set-up with a back up the middle approach and produces consistent hard line drive contact. He is short and direct to the baseball. It starts with a hand-set that is forward in his approach and he takes his hands in a direct path to the baseball. This shows just how much fast twitch strength Hicks posses, generating high end exit velocity with such a short bat path. Defensively Hicks has good actions, and runs well down the line, posting a 4.42 run time from the right side. He has the speed for CF and the next level, but will need to continue to improve on his first step and instincts off the bat.  Hicks showed his above average athleticism in the outfield with a run saving diving catch. Hicks is an exciting athlete with solid baseball actions and will be a close follow for us this coming Spring.

Dalton Strickland OF / RHP / Loganville Christian , GA / 2020

Strickland is a very young for class 2020 OF prospect that has an excellent body at 6-foot-2 180-pounds. We have seen Strickland get stronger over the course of the year and it is starting to show up in his game. He posted an 85 mph exit velocity at the event and see even more coming in the future. Strickland has a well built swing and shows balance and form at in the batters box. Strickland stroke plays best middle of away right now, but will flash strong gap power into the left-center gap. Defensively Strickland profiles more a corner outfield spot at the next level, but has excellent actions and plays through the baseball very well. His ability to back-spin the ball on his release give him strong carry to the ball and throws much better than the velocity indicates, and has chance to project into a plus arm from the outfield. Strickland is a good baseball player and has been productive for a long time.  He will continue to be a very close follow for us over the next couple of years.

Dylan Wright OF / LHP / Ringgold, GA / 2020

Wright is an athletic kid with a strong frame at 6-foot 180-pounds.  At the plate he shows an excellent set-up with high hands and loaded elbow, he has a direct path to the baseball. Wright projects as hit over power at this time, but with frequent hard contact, a late run on power is not out of the question. Wright has solid outfield actions and shows the ability to make good reads as a outfielder could fit in center-field for somebody at the next level. Wright can also run posting a strong 4.30 run time from the left side. This is an interesting package and will be a close follow for us over the next couple years as the adds even more strength to his game.
