GHSA Class 7A-1A Rankings - Final

The 2022 GHSA high school season has come to end, which means this will be our final update to the classification rankings until 2023. As expected, each of the eight state champions rise to No. 1 in their respective class. To view the final classification rankings, CLICK HERE.

Class 7A

State Champions: Woodstock Wolverines (33-7)
State Runner-up: Etowah Eagles (31-11)

Woodstock entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 3 team in Class 7A. The Wolverines would go on to sweep every single series in the playoffs, with wins over Newnan, Parkview and Etowah. The pitching duo of LHP Brayden Davis and LHP Kevin Maurer powered a staff that allowed only 2.0 runs per game. In the state finals, Woodstock blanked region rival Etowah twice, winning 5-0 and 4-0.



Class 6A


State Champions: Pope Greyhounds (33-7)
State Runner-up: Allatoona Buccaneers (35-6)

Pope entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 6 team in Class 6A. The Greyhounds rattled off 10 consecutive wins to sweep Dacula, Effingham County, Evans, Buford, and Allatoona in route to a state title. The pitching staff, led by LHP Dawson Campbell and RHP Jack Butler, allowed only 2.4 runs per game while the offense put up a healthy 10.5 runs per game. Pope ran away with both games in the state title, defeating Allatoona 10-0 and 9-2.



Class 5A


State Champions: Loganville Red Devils (32-9)
State Runner-up: Cartersville Hurricanes (32-8)

Loganville entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 3 team in Class 5A. The Red Devils swept their way into the state finals with wins over Midtown, Harris County, Ware County and Decatur. In the state finals, the Red Devils would need all three games to take down Cartersville. Loganville took game one 5-4, dropped game two 1-0, and clinched the state title with a 9-0 win in game three. The Red Devil pitching staff tossed five shutouts in their 10 wins.



Class 4A


State Champions: North Oconee Titans (39-1)
State Runner-up: LaGrange Grangers (31-12)

North Oconee entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 1 team in Class 4A, a distinction they held for the entire year. The Titans ended the season on a 36 game win streak, and set a state record for wins in a single season with 39. It was a historic season for the state's top team. Their only loss came on 2/21 in their fourth game of the season. Despite being a juggernaut, LaGrange gave the Titans everything they could handle. In the end though, North Oconee was too much, walking off game one 3-2 and then pulling away late in game two 9-5, for their first state title.



Class 3A


State Champions: Pike County (36-6)
State Runner-up: Redan (29-8)

Pike County entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 2 team in Class 3A. The Pirates showcased their strong depth as they were forced to a game three in three different series. They needed three games to defeat Sonoraville in round two, three games to defeat GAC in round three, and three games to claim the state title over Redan, 6-4, 0-2, 5-4. Along the way, they swept Thomson and North Hall. The Pirates' pitching staff only allowed 2.0 runs per game.



Class 2A


State Champions: Vidalia Indians (30-11)
State Runner-up: Thomasville Bulldogs (30-7)

Vidalia entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 6 team in Class 2A. The Indians were a tale of two teams. They dropped 9 of their first 13 games to start the season, but once they got to region play, there was no stopping them. The Indians closed the season winning their final 16 games. In the postseason, they used an explosive offense to cruise into the final four, averaging 12.3 runs per game up to that point. Facing elimination twice, Vidalia took games two and three from Lovett 5-3, 5-4 to punch their ticket into the state finals. The Indians would again go to a third game in the state finals, prevailing 7-0 in the winner-take-all game.



Class 1A-Public


State Champions: Metter Tigers (31-5)
State Runner-up: Charlton County Indians (32-8)

Metter entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 4 team in Class 1A-Public. The Tigers got hot at the right time, winning 21 straight games, including sweeping their way through the playoffs to claim back-to-back state titles. they defeated Pelham, GMC, Gordon Lee, Commerce, and Charlton County. Metter was clicking on all cylinders through every series, averaging 9.6 runs per game against 1.9 runs allowed per game. The pitching staff tossed 4 shutouts in that same span.



Class 1A-Private


State Champions: Wesleyan Wolves (35-5)
State Runner-up: North Cobb Christian Eagles (30-9)

Wesleyan entered the 2022 postseason as the No. 4 team in Class 1A-Private. The Wolves put on an offensive clinic throughout the playoffs, averaging 11.4 runs per game, as they swept Christian Heritage, Calvary Day and Whitefield Academy. The final four would offer Wesleyan a chance to avenge their 2021 state title loss to Mt. Paran. It would take all three games, but Wesleyan would get over the hump on a walk-off 7-6 victory. The state title series saw the Wolves shutout NCC 3-0 in game one and run away with things in game two 18-3.
