GHSA Playoffs: Mount Paran Eagles Soar Over St. Francis

Kennesaw, GA - A 1A-Private playoffs matchup kicked-off the classification’s postseason on Thursday night as the Eagles of Mount Paran hosted the Knights of St. Francis. Mount Paran would sweep the series in consecutive games, winning game one 10-0 and game two 14-0.
Game One
The Eagles did not take long to put on the offensive pressure as Uncommitted ‘22 SS, Alex Adams blasted a solo home run to left field to leadoff the game. The next at-bat saw the same result as ‘23 3B/RHP Louisville commit, Cam Collier, launched a solo home run into the trees beyond the right field fence.

After singles by Jake Tucker (‘23, 1B/LHP) and Josh Fitzpatrick (‘22, MIF), starting pitcher and ‘23 Florida State commit, Luke Dotson, knocked in a run with an RBI single - his first of three hits on the day. Mount Paran would put up 4 runs, total, in the inning.
Mount Paran would continue to swing the bat well in the second inning. Adams would pick up his second hit of the game with a line drive double.

Collier would then follow Adams up again, this time with an RBI triple off the left field fence to bring the Eagles’ lead to 5 runs.

Fitzpatrick lined a double to score another run, showing an easy line drive swing.

St. Francis’ starting pitcher, Harry Cain (‘21, Kennesaw State), looked to settle in after the first two innings throwing a scoreless third, followed by a couple tough-luck hits in the fourth. Cain’s breaking ball showed to be sharper and located better and the fastball carried velocity that sat 87-90, touching 91.

Luke Dotson was lights-out for Mount Paran, showing impressive confidence in a two-pitch-mix. Dotson pounded the zone and worked quickly. Dotson finished the game with a 5-inning no-hitter, and recorded all outs by way of strikeout - 15 in total.

Game Two
Cam Collier would get the start in game two for Mount Paran and was just as impressive on the mound as he was at the plate. Collier would pick up where he left off at the plate in game two with a single in the first inning. In his second at-bat, Collier would lace a line drive that would find its way over the right field fence for his second home run of the day, this time scoring three runs.

In the fourth inning, Collier would once again deliver with another three-run home run that would put his RBI total at six for the day and home run total at three over the two-game span.

Josh Fitzpatrick added an opposite field two-run home run of his own to keep the Eagles’ lead safe for Collier on the mound.
The No. 4 ranked player in the 2023 class sat 87-90 in his outing with a very low effort delivery. Working quickly, Collier challenged hitters with fastballs and mixed in an occasional hard-biting breaking ball at 77-81.
