Dallas, GA - A competitive matchup between two 7A teams took place on Thursday between No. 11 North Paulding and the Broncos of Brookwood. Game One was a back-and-forth battle that North Paulding won in walk-off fashion, 8-7. The Wolfpack would also take Game Two to advance to the next round by a score of 8-4.

Game One

The Broncos were the first to strike, and in a big way, to start the day. Georgia Southern recruit, Jonathan Jaime (2021), would single with one out in the inning. Following Jaime was Winthrop catching recruit Jack Spyke (2021). Spyke put a smooth swing on a fastball, sending it over the RF fence for a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the first inning, North Paulding would get one run back. Mitchell Heer (Wallace State), who had a big day for the Wolfpack, singled and advanced to second base on a Brookwood error. After advancing the third base, Heer would score on a passed ball to cut the lead to one run after one inning of play.

The second inning would be a big one for North Paulding, starting with a leadoff walk by South Alabama commit, Grayson Taylor (2022). After a SAC bunt that would result in another Brookwood error, Payton Doyle would draw a walk to load the bases, followed by a walk drawn by Parker Doyle (Spring Hill), which tied the game. Another walk would give the Wolfpack their first lead of the game and would bring up Mitchell Heer.

In the third inning, Brookwood would continue to battle. USC-Aiken recruit, Joshua Sharp (2021), would leadoff the inning with a single and Spyke would pick up his second hit of the game with a double. Recent North Georgia commit, Josh Sosa (2021), would bring in a run on an RBI single.

Brookwood starting pitcher, Dylan Lonergan, would settle in and throw three scoreless innings after the second inning. Fastball sat 86-89, topping out at 90 on the outing. Lonergan’s composure would keep the Broncos in the game and would set them up for a big sixth inning.

With runners on first and second, Jonathan Jaime would place a blooper in front of the North Paulding left fielder scoring a run. A misplay from the Wolfpack would bring in another run to cut the deficit to one run.

Sosa would come up big, again, this time driving in a run to tie the ballgame on a line drive single.

Uncommitted 2021 RHP, Holden Lacour, had a big shutdown inning in the sixth for Brookwood. Lacour would work around runners in scoring position to keep the game knotted at 7.

The top of the seventh would bring excitement, as well, when Brookwood would threaten with runners on second and third. Uncommitted RHP Hunter Sanders (2022) got a big strikeout, followed by a groundout to set the stage for his offense.

Logan Lynch (Lawson State) would draw a one out walk for North Paulding. After a strikeout, Middle Georgia State recruit, Michael Parker, would be the hero for the ‘Pack. With two outs, Parker hit a screamer down the third base line that would bring Lynch around to score the winning run. North Paulding would take Game On, 8-7.

Game Two

The North Paulding bats would pick up where they left off from Game One. In the top of the first inning, they would get another big game from Mitchell Heer, and it would start in his first at bat. Heer would drive a double off the left field fence with one out in the first frame.

The starting pitcher from Game One, Dylan Rhadans, would hit a 2 RBI double to score Heer and Chris Cole, who lead-off the game with a walk.

The second inning would allow for North Paulding to extend their lead. Parker Doyle would get the train moving with a one-out single, followed by base hits from Cole and Heer. A Brookwood error would bring in a run, followed by a fielder’s choice. The Wolfpack would push three runs across in the inning to give themselves a commanding 5-0 lead after the top of the second inning.

Brookwood would chip away in the third with an RBI SAC fly from Joshua Sharp and an RBI groundout by Jaime.

Brookwood would have a chance to score in the fifth inning with bases-loaded. North Paulding starting pitcher, 2023 Georgia commit Jake Hembree would bear down and pick up a big strikeout to end the inning.

North Paulding would score two more in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Brookwood would push across two runs, but the deficit would be too much to overcome as North Paulding would take the series victory by a score of 8-4.
