Harrison vs Lambert

Emerson, GA- Once again we had two strong arms on the mound to kickoff the 2020 season for Harrison and Lambert. Senior, Tusculum commit Brian Drakeford matched up against junior lefty, Braden Bamburowski.  Bamburowski led off the game with two quick strikeouts, his fastball worked up to 85 in the first. Drakeford came out swinging as well with a fastball up to 88. He was sitting mid-80’s when we last saw him in the fall. A leadoff walk by Lambert’s Parker Brosius turned into the first run of the game. Harrison was able to get a little momentum in the 2nd inning with a lead-off walk by Mitchell Walker, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Morehead State commit, Charlie Tull.  Garrett Pate drove in Walker with a ground ball to third base to tie the game at 1-1. 

Brian Drakeford below:

Drakeford capitalized off of his offenses run by striking out the side. He was able to chalk up seven strikeouts in three innings of work. Both fastball and the slider looked upgraded from the fall. Fastball had a lot of life, and the slider was able to get swing and misses all game. Bamburowski answered the following inning getting three quick outs. His fastball settled in at 81-83, as the game progressed he showed the ability to throw three pitches for strikes. Forcing the Harrison offense to swing the bat. He finished the 4th inning, and would let the bullpen take care of the rest. Final stat line: 1 earned run, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts.

Flagler commit, Daniel Fischer took over in the 5th. The lefty ran the fastball up to 85, and showed high pitchability and command. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th, uncommitted senior, Will Hensley drove one into right field to give the Longhorns the lead. North Georgia commit, Reid Howard looked to close it out with a one run lead. 

Harrison called on Auburn commit, John Amrstrong to keep them in the game, and give them a chance in the top half of the 7th. He showed some impressive stuff with a fastball up to 88 from the high ¾ slot with heavy arm side run and some sink. He was able to force a ground ball back to him to execute a perfect 1-2-3 double play to end the Longhorns threat. 

Howard was back out in the 7th to try to give his team their first win of the year. The Hoyas got a couple runners on base, and gave senior Justin Wobb a chance to tie it. He hit a hard fly ball to right center that looked like it had a chance to drop, but Brenton Newberry ran it down for the final out of the game. The Longhorns would take the season opener 2-1.
