No. 20 Lassiter Stuns No. 5 Allatoona

Allatoona, Ga - No. 5 Allatoona and No. 20 Lassiter clashed on Wednesday evening at Allatoona, in a top-25 matchup between region foes. Despite going up against the Bucs “ace”, RHP Logan McGuire (2021; Georgia Tech), it was the Lassiter bats that controlled the game from start to finish. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, stunning Allatoona at home 8-2.
McGuire did not have his sharpest stuff on the day, sitting 90-93 with his fastball and throwing slider at 76-79. He was unable to consistently find feel for his pitches, and the Lassiter offense capitalized. SS Bradley Frye (2021; Georgia Tech) picked up the first hit of the game, an infield single, with one out in the top of the first. McGuire regrouped to strikeout the next batter, but followed that with a walk to C Ryan Stephens (2021).
INF Ben Norton (2021; Wabash Valley JC) got the wheels turning for the first run with a hard hit ball to the second baseman that resulted in an error and a running coming to score. The Trojans would take on another run as Stephens would score on a passed ball.
Lasstier came back swinging in the top of the second. 3B Kyle Carlson (2021; Piedmont) led the inning off by turning around a 90 mph fastball and sending it into the left center gap for a double. C Nick Newton (2022) wasted no time bringing Carlson around. The junior sent an 88 mph fastball into right field to score Carlson from second.
The Buccaneers were able to get the deficit back down to two runs in the third inning. C William Mosley (2022) and 1B Aidan Jolley (2022) started the inning off with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, DH Ethan Sutton (2023) blasted a ball off the base of the fence in left field for an RBI double.
The momentum did not last long for Allatoona as Lassiter struck back in the top of the third with two more runs. Stephens and Norton led the inning off with back-to-back singles, putting runners on the corners. OF Max Beck-Berendsen (2021) elevated a ball to deep right field that brought around Stephens. Then it was Carlson, who came up with his second double of the game, this time into the right center gap, scoring a run.
Lassiter starter RHP Walker Noland (2021) did a great job of limiting the Buccaneers offense over his five innings on the mound. He was able to scatter eight hits and two runs while striking out three and walking two. The 6-foot-4, 170-pound right-hander worked mostly 83-85, touching 86 and 87. He mixed in his sinking changeup early in the game at 75-76, and then the second time through went to his 11/5 curveball.
The lead grew to 7-2 in the top of the sixth thanks to RBI singles by Frye and OF Cameron Campbell (2021).
The Trojans brought in RHP Harris Bryson (2021) to seal the deal over the final two frames. Bryson kept the Buccaneers off the scoreboard, striking out two batters while allowing three hits and walking two. The right-hander worked 80-83 and was aggressive with his offspeed pitches. He went right after hitters with a heavy sinking changeup and a sharp 12/6 breaking ball.
No. 5 Allatoona is back in action at Sprayberry while No. 20 Lassiter hosts No. 9 Pope.
