PBR Future Games: Team Georgia Game 3 Recap

Team Georgia capped off their 2022 Future Games with a heavyweight tilt against Team Texas on what was supposed to be Saturday afternoon. Mother Nature had other plans as a three hour lightning delay ensued, forcing an 8:00 PM start.

The Peach State got off on the right foot with Pete Jezerinac (Kennesaw Mountain) opening things up on the bump Jezerinac cruised through the first with one of the most impressive showings of the entire event. Jack Myers (Pope) continued to find barrels, driving in the first run of the game in the bottom half of the first following Arnold Abernathy swinping both second and third base after he walked.   The Lonestar State would prove to be too much though, as Texas rattled off 10 straight runs to defeat Team Georgia 10-2. Craig Kalkbrenner (Harrison) would provide the other RBI in the game, bringing around Marquis Mitchell (Georgia Premier) to score after his double. KJ Moon (North Oconee) and Trey Robbins (Whitewater) stymied the Texas offense late in the game with three consecutive scoreless innings.

*A special shoutout to Ajay Jones (North Hall) who quite literally put his body on the line to help the team. Jones gave everything he had and then some as he ran full speed into the wall in right field in the 5th inning against Texas trying to rob a home run. Although shaken up, Jones would later return to the lineup. A testament to the warrior that he is on the diamond. All gas, no brakes has never described a player more perfectly than it does Jones.*

Scout Notes

LHP Pete Jezerinac, 2024, Kennesaw Mountain, Nelson Baseball School
The athletic left-hander, standing 6-foot-2, 155-pounds, rolled out for his second appearance of the 2022 PBR Future Games vs. Texas, and surpassed all expectations. Working short on the back-side with a high front-side, there is plenty of deception as he comes through a high ¾ slot. The fastball does not have overpowering velocity sitting 83-87, but based on some of the swing and misses by Team Texas, it was like Jezerinac was throwing 93-97. He commanded the zone to both sides of the plate, consistently pitching on the black. The changeup is a swing and miss pitch at 77 as he pulls the string on it, maintaining arm speed and arm slot. He has good feel for his 1/7 curveball that has depth, confidence to throw in any count. High level pitch ability.


RHP DeShawn Morgan, 2024, North Paulding, East Cobb Astros
Team Georgia’s most high powered arm did not disappoint in his appearance against Team Texas. A high level athlete, Morgan moves with a fluidity and smoothness that very few can.At 5-foot-11, 175-pounds he has lean strength and a muscular build. Equipped with an elastic arm, it moves with looseness and controlled build up on the back-side. Morgan coils his lower half at balance point and cleanly drives down the mound. Horse whip-like arm explodes through release with easy effort. Fastball sat 88-91 with life, can blow it by hitters. Slider, 69-73, 2500 rpm, sweeping action, some sharp, some swing and miss.
3B/RHP KJ Moon, 2024, North Oconee, Team Elite
Moon shutdown the Texas offense with 2.0 shutout innings on the mound. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander has a strong, athletic build with broad shoulders, plenty of room left to grow into. Moon maybe had the deepest arsenal of pitches to go to on Team Georgia with a four pitch mix. The ability to spin two distinct breaking balls stood out, as the curveball and slider took differing shapes. Both pitches showed swing and miss qualities. The slider came in at 77-79 (2500 rpm) and had tight cutting action. The curveball was a true 12/6 with depth, coming in at 74 (2500 rpm). Moon also showed a heavy sinking changeup that he can kill the spin on (1300 rpm) at 80-81. The astball, somewhat straight, has good tilt and sat 85-87.
LHP Trey Robbins, 2026, Whitewater, The Dream
At 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, Robbins does not look like your normal rising freshman. Big bodies with broad shoulders, there is already present strength and plenty of room/time for much more. One of only three 2026s to participate in the 2022 PBR Future Games, Robbins showed that he more than belonged with his appearance against Team Texas, going 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Utilizing a long, free swinging arm action that has plenty of looseness, Robbins gets downhill through a high ¾ slot. He finishes his throws really pulling down through release. There is present arm speed and given his frame, much more in the tank. Relying primarily on his fastball, he pitched to all parts of the zone, sitting 83-86 with run. He showed a solid curveball that has a slurvish shape at 69. Very promising prospect on the mound who has also shown a big left-handed swing in the past.
