PBR Georgia Player of the Week: RHP Dylan Lesko & SS Wes Franklin

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

The third week of this rain soaked season came to a conclusion over the weekend, and with that Player of the Week nominations reopened. Benedictine’s Carter Holton (2021; Vanderbilt) was unable to make it a three-peat as Pitcher of the Week, meaning we have a new player to crown. This week’s Pitcher of the Week is awarded to the state’s top 2022, RHP Dylan Lesko (Buford). Hitter of the Week goes to SS Wes Franklin (Brookwood; Mercer).

Lesko has long been regarded as one of the most talented players in the entire country, and he put it all on display last weekend in Hoover, AL. Facing a slate of out-of-state teams, Lesko matched up against North Broward Prep out of Florida. The sophomore right-hander did his thing, pitching a complete game no-hitter, punching out 12 batters and coming one walk away from achieving the hardest feat in baseball, a perfect game.

7/31/19 - Is the rare combination of now stuff and projection at such a young age. Showing advanced feel for a change-up, even for a much older prospect. and future weapons in both his fastball and curveball. The word advanced can be dangled about this day and age, but the only prep to show these types of attributes at such a young age was one Dylan Bundy. Lesko is unafraid on the mound and has no problem establishing his fastball which he locates and hides well behind his technically sound front side and his on line stroke, especially for an arm that works so clean and easy. He sits an effortless 91-93, and possesses an advanced changeup that will play at any level. - PBR Georgia Staff

Our hitter of the week, Wes Franklin, had a mind boggling week. In four games, we went 9-for-13, which in and of itself would be impressive. However, the hulking 6-foot-3, 205-pound middle infielder, had eight extra base hits, including five home runs and two triples, while knocking in 11 runs. He was especially locked in on Saturday against Archer and Grayson when he blasted two home runs in each game.

1/11/20 - Mercer commit 2020 SS Wesley Franklin (Brookwood) is a projectable, athletic 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed hitter. Franklin’s swing stood out amongst the rest, he sweeps the barrel long through the zone, hitting off the front-side of his large frame, and drives balls to the gaps, 99 mph exit velocity off a tee. Franklin also carries his weight considerably well, running a 7.04 laser-timed 60. - Georgia Scouting Director Phil Kerber
