Power 25 HS Preview: #14 Denmark

PBR Georgia Staff

The 2023 Georgia high school baseball season is less than a month away. With the season getting pushed up one week the coaches and players have an extra week to prepare for opening day. Will it be sunny and 75? Or below freezing for opening day? The Georgia weather is unpredictable, just like trying to predict who will come out on top of each classification. The talent in the State of Georgia continues to be one of the best in the country. Some regions have a fresh new look, and some region foes will continue to battle for that top spot to earn the best road to the state championship.

We will begin to preview our Power 25 rankings each day until the season begins. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each GHSA classification as well as a Power 25. Be sure to follow PBR Georgia on twitter for live action each week, as our staff travels throughout the state to cover baseball in the great state of Georgia.

Team Outlook

Denmark will look to bring home another region title in 2023. After a great regular season in 2022 the Danes came up short in the first round of the state playoffs against a tough North Gwinnett squad. North Carolina commit, Francesco Capocci will be one of the top pitchers in the state, and will be a potential name in the 2023 MLB draft. His fastball is continuing to climb, and we could see him sit mid 90’s this spring. The large framed righty has made some huge strength gains over the last couple of years, catching the eyes of MLB scouts. The change up has developed as well, and will be a big pitch to throw off the heavy run fastball. He will also contribute at the plate Georgia Tech commit, Kyle Henley will be the leader of the Danes offense. Kyle brings 3 electric tools to the diamond at a premium defensive position (CF) that play every day, regardless if he has a good game at the plate or not. Due to his run tool and athleticism, the range and glove are from another planet, giving him true gold glove potential in the future. Henley is very well balanced at the plate and has made vast improvements in simplifying & quieting down his swing in the past year. With excellent bat speed and elite reaction time, he’ll be turning around FB’s all spring. Lefty Anthony Biondo will be a big piece of the Danes success. Biondo has a mid 80’s fastball and a big 12-6 breaking ball. If he can be consistent alongside Capocci they will be a tough 1-2 combo this spring. We expect a big spring from All-region catcher, Landon Armstrong. Denmark has found ways to win the last few years, and if they can get a strong class behind Capocci and Henley they have what it takes to go back to back for the region title.
