PBR Georgia Staff
Hudson Graham

The 2023 Georgia high school baseball season is less than a month away. With the season getting pushed up one week the coaches and players have an extra week to prepare for opening day. Will it be sunny and 75? Or below freezing for opening day? The Georgia weather is unpredictable, just like trying to predict who will come out on top of each classification. The talent in the State of Georgia continues to be one of the best in the country. Some regions have a fresh new look, and some region foes will continue to battle for that top spot to earn the best road to the state championship.

We will begin to preview our Power 25 rankings each day until the season begins. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each GHSA classification as well as a Power 25. Be sure to follow PBR Georgia on twitter for live action each week, as our staff travels throughout the state to cover baseball in the great state of Georgia.

Team Outlook

The Eagles had an impressive 2022 going 32-4 and only losing 1 region game. They also rattled off a 17 game win streak late in the season. Unfortunately, they fell to Wesleyan in a hard fought series. They return their top arms on the mound, and have a cast of offensive weapons to make a run in 2023. Georgia Tech commit Tate McKee and Mississippi State commit Luke Dotson will be 2 names to keep an eye on for the 2023 MLB draft. Both players were planning to attend the Super 60 in Chicago, but were not able to make it due to the Georgia HS season getting pushed up a week. Both McKee and Dotson will be in the upper 80’s and low 90’s. This will be one of the strongest lefty righty duos in the state. The impressive depth of pitching will also include Georgia commit Paul Farley and Georgia Tech commit Jake Tucker. Tucker will also be a key piece in the Eagles lineup. With these 4 guys it really puts the Eagles at an advantage when they get into a 3 game series during playoffs.

They will need a few hitters to step up to follow Kyle Crisp, Nick Germain and Garrett Droege in the line up. One of those players will be Pete Czaska, the lefty power bat will be a huge addition for the Eagles this spring. Henry Akopov will be a high follow for the 2025 class. Akopov was a standout at LakePoint this summer and holds one of the top 60 times in the class at a 6.44. Mount Paran will have the strongest pitching staff in the state, and if they line up can get rolling they will have a chance to make a run at the 2A state title.
