Week 4 update

The 2023 Georgia High School baseball is starting to find its groove, as we approach region play. Teams have battled against non-region opponents the last 3-4 weeks, and given us a good look as to what to expect for region play. With the 3 game series format this year pitching is going to be key. A sweep can separate you from the rest, but winning the series the name of the game.

There was a little shake up at the top of the rankings. Blessed Trinity slides up to #2 after winning 12 straight and opening region play up 5-0. Top pitchers Jake Lankie and Porter Buursema continue to excel, The offense is becoming more and more consistent as the season goes on, scoring 58 runs in their last 7 games. Michael Zito has emerged as one of their top offensive weapons. At Georgia Dugout club he batted .444 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 6 RBI's, and 6 runs scored. Zito is one of the top uncommitted 2024's in the state, and will be a big time pick up for any program. BT will have some tough tests down the road with Bishop Gorman (NV) coming to town, and region foes Lassiter and Pope to finish out the year.

Houston County was also bumped up to #3 after a 9-1 start to begin the year. They will begin their region play on Tuesday against Northside. The Bears are potentially the deepest team in the state. They have had 2 underclassman, Vick Gann and Ethan Buffone that have seemingly connected their line up to have threats from top to bottom. Recently ranked #17 in the state, Andrew Dunford has been on a tear both on the mound and at the plate. Recently up to 95, the Future Gamer is proving why he is one of the top arms in the country. If the season continues to play out how it is we are bound to see a Houston County vs Blessed Trinity match up late in the season.

We will be releasing a full article on the 6 of top risers in the coming days, so be on the lookout for that. There are a handful of teams that have been playing really good baseball that we could see jump into the Power 25 in the coming weeks. North Hall opened up the season 7-0, and will have a huge test tomorrow against North Oconee. They are littered with young talent in Mills Lothridge and Kaleb Sexton as 2 of their top arms. They have an entire line up full of tough outs, and strong defensive players in Jon Jon Read, Nathan Vermeer and Luke Sanders. Prince Avenue Christian, Greenbrier, River Ridge, Walnut Grove, and Woodstock are other teams to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. River Ridge and Woodstock continue to prove they can battle with anyone in the state. Greenbrier remains undefeated, but will stack up against a talented Coffee County team in the next couple of weeks. Coffee is also a team that could potentially sneak into the Power 25 at some point this year.

The state of Georgia continues to prove why it is one of the best baseball states in the country. There are a number of teams that could be in the top 25 at any point in the season. From now until the end of the season we will begin to update the Power 25 each week. Stay tuned to see who makes the cut.
