Prep Baseball Report

Senior Spotlight: 2B/3B Carter McWilliams

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season in limbo, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Starting today, we will be spotlighting several uncommitted prospects to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level.

A top of the order bat for one of the deepest teams in state this year, 2B/3B Carter McWilliams (Allatoona, 2020) helped set the tone early. McWilliams plays much larger than his listed 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame would indicate. Using his strong hands and lower half, he is able to drive the ball, with a mostly middle approach, gap-to-gap. He also possesses the ability to hit for power to the pull-side, as his swing path varies between mostly level and slightly uphill. This indicates that, with added mass and strength to his frame, he has the potential to hit for power to the middle and pull-side at the next level. McWilliams is a high energy, all-out two-way prospect. Once the ball is put in play offensively, he is aggressive on the base paths, putting pressure on the defensive. Defensively, he is capable at second and third base, with enough arm to make third base a permanent home. McWilliams is willing to put his body on the line, making diving plays and knocking the ball down with his frame. He has a high work ethic, and with continued development, could be a key player for someone at the next level given time.

Scouting Report

4/01/20 - 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting second and third baseman, sturdy frame with lean strength throughout, plenty of room to add mass to all areas, strong lower half, high energy prospect. Balanced setup at the plate, short leg kick timing trigger, replaces foot, little to no load as he cocks barrel, good balance throughout. Usable strength at the plate with a gap-to-gap line drive approach, swing path works mostly level, at-times can get slightly uphill, allowing for him to elevate, has shown the ability to elevate for power to the pull-side, strong hands through contact. Potential for more power in swing with added strength to frame.
