East Georgia Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball Georgia
Staff

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA  - The Prep Baseball Georgia Staff traveled to IVSA Training for our final Preseason ID. This facility allows us to escape the elements. We always look forward to going to new parts of the state to identify new talent. This event was an opportunity to see a talented group from the 2025-2028 class. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 30 yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw using Trackman. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.

Quick Hits

Zach Simmons, OF/1B, 2025, KellR
ecently reclassifying from the 2026 class, the uncommitted OF/1B was loud from the start at East Georgia Preseason ID. Physical with remaining projectability at 6-foot-3, 192-pounds, Simmons offers tools that play on both sides, starting with an impressive 3.75 30 where his long strides help reach top speed quickly. There’s budding plus raw power at the plate for Simmons as well. Excellent hand and bat speed paired with the ability to get on-plane and on-time consistently from high handset. Barrel generates a ton of length through the zone with impact behind it, carrying balls to both gaps with ease with multiple 101+ exit velocities, Max 103.1. Accurate, above-average arm strength really stood out for Simmons as well with a max of 89 from the infield and 90 from the outfield but consistent carry makes it play up even more. Extremely young for the 2025 class at 16.4, Simmons has a very high ceiling that we could see big glimpses of this spring.

Kaiden Howell, SS, 2026, Loganville
The Red Devils have a tremendous ability of churning out gritty, gamer type athletes with high floors and Kaiden Howell looks to be next in-line. The uncommitted junior is athletic with some physicality at 5-foot-8, 155-pounds and still has good room for growth. Good balance at the plate, letting his hands track back before showing some violence in a steep left-handed cut. Ball carries to the pull-side with minimal effort and holds present feel for the barrel. Max EV 89.9. Present above-average arm strength in the infield with good footwork and accuracy from multiple angles. There’s good value in the profile with the ability to help you win a bunch of games.

Emani Ford, MIF, 2026, Parkview
I only had the chance to see Ford sparingly throughout the summer and fall, so Sunday was an important look for me and the Kennesaw State commit did nothing but impress. The switch-hitter is a mirror image from both sides of the plate, showing simple actions with good balance and ability to manipulate the barrel through the zone. Sprayed balls all over the field in an easy all-fields approach that bodes well towards the hit tool ceiling. Avg. EV 86.6, Max 94.9. Range and footwork to currently profile at either middle-infield position with present arm strength to make any throw necessary. There’s much more to come in terms of ceiling with Ford but the floor is significant, and will be a name to watch this spring.

Brody Smith, C, 2026, Cherokee
Standing a lean, high-waisted 6-foot-1, 177-pounds, Smith flashed some intriguing tools at the plate that could be an asset for Cherokee this spring as they battle a brutal region. Loose, fast hands that showed some outlier bat speed (Max 82.2) while finding good quality of contact throughout a strong round of BP. Stays quiet pre-pitch while working short-to-long, creating leverage to the pull-side and impact in the barrel, Max EV 95.3. The uncommitted backstop works out of the crouch well with good accuracy to 2B and flexibility in the lower half. Pop Time best 2.07

Tyler Sohn, 3B/OF, 2025, North Gwinnett
North Gwinnett will return a ton of veteran talent this spring, and Tyler Sohn looks poised to factor in what appears to be a potent lineup. The uncommitted 3B/OF has some present physicality and athleticism in the 6-foot-0, 175-pound frame that he utilizes greatly at the plate with some big-time metrics. Loose hands with great weight transfer lead to tremendous snap in the barrel backed by above-average bat speed (Max 77.5). Generated loud contact throughout the advanced round of BP while having the 2nd best average exit velocity of the day at 87.7, Max 93.9. Ball was jumping off the bat with easy carry to both gaps, and gives Sohn a high power floor with potential for even more. Worked out only in the outfield on Sunday, showing strong footwork and present above-average, on-target arm strength (Max 91) that should allow Sohn to profile at any corner infield or outfield position this spring.

Wilson Moore, RHP, 2025, Gatewood
5-foot-10 208-pounds. Uncommitted. In our 1st look at Moore he came finished off the East Georgia Preseason ID in a loud way. He had an electric fastball, coming out of a deceptive slot and was up to 89, sitting 87-88. It had late, arm side life and he commanded the bottom of the zone. He threw 4 pitches for strikes and had 2 different breaking balls. The slider is more firm in the mid 70’s with horizontal action. Then he flipped over a curveball in the low 70’s that had tight, 12-6 break. He finished it off with a change up at 82-84 that will disrupt the hitters timing. Moore will be a solid pick up that will have the ability to start or come out of the pen at the next level.

Jay Johnson, LHP, 2026, Bleckley County
5-foot-9 162-pounds. Uncommitted. Johnson put together a strong pen on Sunday afternoon. We last had him on trackman in 2023 and he was topping 77 on his fastball. Fast forward to 2025 and he is sitting 82-84 with easy life and much more in the tank. The fastball has natural arm side run and gets late life in the bottom of the zone. He has a great change up to throw off the fastball that has fading action. The frame is ready to add more size/strength, especially in the long, lanky lower half.

Thomas Davis, 3B, 2028, North Hall
6-foot 165-pounds. Davis has added some size since we last saw him at Junior Future Games in July. He had a strong showing all around, starting with a consistent round of BP, spraying line drives to all parts of the field. He is really going to start coming into his power at the plate, and will take his game to the next level. He showed off the naturally strong arm with smooth actions across the infield. He was low to mid 80’s on the mound with 3 pitches for strikes. Be on the lookout for him to have a big spring at North Hall as one of the top freshmen in the state.

Cash Fenhagen, RHP, 2027, Midtown
5-foot-11 194-pounds. This was our 1st look at Fenhagen and made a strong first impression. The delivery is quiet and compact with a strong lower half. He does a good job of getting down the mound and staying in his legs. He comes from an over the top slot with good carry through the zone. The fastball was 84-85, he has been up to 87 in the past, and im sure we will see him back up there this spring. He controlled the strike zone with 4 pitches for strikes. The change up had really sharp downward action that worked well off the fastball. Fenhagen will be a sophomore to keep an eye on this spring and as he heads into the summer.
