South Georgia Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball Georgia
Staff

VALDOSTA, GA  - The Prep Baseball Georgia Staff traveled to Lowndes High School for the first time to kick off the preseason. We always look forward to going to South Georgia to see new talent in another part of the state. This event was an opportunity to see a talented group from the 2025-2028 class. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw using Trackman. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Saturday.

Quick Hits

Matthew Kerrigan, OF, Lowndes, 2026
Auburn commit. 5-foot-11 176-pounds. This was our first look at Kerrigan following the 2024 high school season. He continues to add considerable size and strength. He has been a fun player to watch develop since we 1st saw him in the summer of 2021 at the 13u Junior Future Games and then again in 2022 at the 14u Junior Future Games. He put on a loud round of BP with a top exit velocity of 103.6mph and max distance of 373ft. He keeps things simple at the plate displaying a middle/away approach in his first round with exit velocities in the low 90’s to the back side and then in his 2nd round he showed off the power with a deep home run to right center. Kerrigan is on the hunt for another breakout season and will be one of Lowndes key pieces to attempt a 3-peat.

Heath Davis, OF, Lowndes, 2027
It was our first look at Davis, and the uncommitted sophomore proceeded to check a ton of boxes with a tooled-up profile. Plenty of projection remaining in the lean 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame that already shows high-level athleticism. Opened his day by putting down the best run of the event with an impressive 6.83 60 in fairly chilly conditions, boasting an explosive first step and ability to hit top speed quickly. Davis continued with an advanced round of BP, where the outfielder showed a strong ability to use the whole field well. With a quick-twitch trigger, Davis works short to long with his swing, while creating good length through the zone and present feel for the barrel that generated consistent 90+ exit velocities. Quality actions in the outfield as well for Davis, showing tools that could point to a long-term future in CF with present above-average arm strength and advanced footwork. Looking at the present tools and projection, Davis has a chance to develop into a big-time outfielder in the 2027 class, especially at the hotbed that is Lowndes High School.

Landen Harris, OF, Benedictine, 2028
Identifying freshman talent is one of our biggest focal points in the preseason ID series, and Landen Harris is a great example of that. With an athletic, high-waisted 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame, Harris looks the part immediately then proceeds to show an advanced profile on the field. The outfielder peppered balls to both gaps with one of the better swings of the day. Staying compact and through the ball, Harris showed an impressive ability to match planes and stay on-time consistently. Hands are in the zone forever with budding impact in the barrel (Max EV 90). Present arm strength showing in the outfield, topping at 82 with accuracy and carry that allow it to play up and obviously more to come as he continues to fill out the frame. Instantly becomes a name to know in what looks to be a fantastic 2028 class.

Kai Hernandez-Gambill, LHP/1B, Benedictine, 2027
Standing a physical 6-foot-1, 207-pounds, Hernandez-Gamill flashed a budding two-way profile that could have instant impact for a talented Benedictine team this spring. Present hand and bat speed that showed up in a loud round of BP. Hernandez does a great job of staying balanced while creating good separation and tapping into his lower half well. Shows good barrel lag in-zone while creating leverage that both generates high exit velos (Max 98.1) and easy carry to the pull-side. On the mound, the left-hander repeats a lower three-quarters slot very well with good scap retraction pointing to more velocity as he matures. Fastball was 81-83.8, with some bore and present feel to spin (Max 2249). Commands both sides of the plate well and late run could lead to heavy swing-and-miss. Tight slider in the mid-70s pairs well with the fastball and shows present command to land for strikes frequently on the lower half. Changeup has a chance to be a quality offering for Hernandez, operating in high-70s with advanced feel and tunneling. Late fade will keep hitters off balance, and could have the makings of a put away pitch down the line. The overall profile is intriguing and instantly becomes a name to know in both the region and in the 2027 class.

Graysen Spears, SS, Lee County, 2026
5-foot-10 155-pounds. Spears put together a strong day from his 60 yard dash at 7.1 to an event 1st of 90mph across the infield and exit velocities in the low 90’s during BP. At the plate he has a simple approach, looking to stay through the middle of the field. He showed the ability to get to all pitches and match plane. He drove the ball the other way with an inside out swing, and let the hands work when the ball was on the inner half. In the field he showed smooth actions with a strong lower half that carried momentum over to 1B to show off the strong arm. Spears is the type of player that the ability will play up in game, and will be a key piece for Lee County in 2025.

 Paul Tindall, LHP/OF, Lowndes, 2026
5-foot-10 157-pounds. Tindall put together a really strong day all around. At the plate he had a smooth, left handed swing. He showed the ability to get to the ball on the inner half, and sent one of his last swings over the right field wall. He starts in a slightly open stance and matches plane really well. From the outfield he was 5 for 5 on accurate throws to the plate, giving the catcher an easy long hop. He worked through the ball well, and kept a strong base. On the mound he filled up the zone in the upper 70’s with 3 pitches for strikes. The change up was really impressive, it came out of the same tunnel as the fastball and had fading action, with sharp downward break. The delivery is smooth and effortless and with added strength/size he could take his pitch ability to the next level as he could creep into the low 80’s.

Easton Blanton, RHP/3B, Lowndes, 2026
6-foot-2 191-pounds. We first got to see Blanton this time last year, and he has made some big strides in a year's time. The frame is stronger and better put together and put together a strong all around day from BP to fielding to being the top arm of the event on the mound. He posted a max exit velocity of 98.3, which was good for 2nd place in the event. He posted a max distance of 359ft. The hand speed for Blanton is what drives the swing, and the power is supplied by the strong lower half and 6-2 frame. He moved really well across the infield with clean actions that translate well over at 3B. On the mound he has cleaned up the delivery some from last year, and ran the fastball up to 86.6. He flows down the mound with good tempo and a strong lower half. I think we could see Blanton really tap into the power and get into the upper 80’s this spring. He will be one to follow as a key piece on the mound for the Vikings in 2025.
