Super 60: Georgia Notes

Ian Smith
Assistant Scouting Director

This past weekend was the 23rd annual Super 60, which is annually the most scouted preseason event in the country with over 100 pro scouts in attendance and it was a banner day for the state of Georgia. Seven players from the Peach State made the journey to Chicago, marking the most from any state in the event as well as the most players ever from Georgia in Super 60 history.

The journey for some of the players in attendance has been highlighted by some premium Prep Baseball events such as Junior Future Games, Future Games, and even the All-American Game and now with Super 60.

Josh Gibbs, SS, Forsyth Central
It was our first chance to see Gibbs in this setting and the shortstop decided to show out on a huge stage. It started in BP where Gibbs continued to show his advanced feel for the barrel while firing balls all over The Max indoor facility. While the moving parts remain at the plate, the Georgia commit does an excellent job of staying balanced while working from the ground up and syncing every part of his body to stay on-time and on-plane through the zone. Ability to show plus bat speed stands out for Gibbs (Max 85.2) while generating consistent hard-hit contact through the zone (Avg. EV 94.8, Max 102.1). Fluid actions showing in middle-infield drills with substantial lateral range and accuracy from multiple arm angles. Gibbs displayed present above-average arm strength as well, with one of the better numbers of the day at 88. There’s tools and a higher ceiling for Gibbs to stick up-the-middle long term.

John Stuetzer, SS/CF, Pope
The Florida State commit made the trip to Chicago and proceeded to check nearly every box as he‘s headed into the spring. One of the most athletic, physical profiles in the state at 5-foot-11, 198-pounds. Stuetzer posted plus in-game times throughout the spring/summer, so putting down a 6.50 60 wasn’t surprising, but the 3.55 30 yard split was the 2nd fastest in Super 60 while reaching a top speed of 21.9mph. The SS/OF carried the hot start into his round of BP where Stuetzer flashed premium hand (Max 27.5, 2nd in-event) and bat speed (Max 80.8) while showing a quieter setup at the plate. Smoked line-drives consistently in his round to the tune of a 92% hard-hit rate and average EV of 94.1. Triple-digit max EV and ability to carry balls 380+ only strengthened the round. Defense actions at short made huge strides in 2024 and he showed that in spades on Sunday. Loose actions in the arm and moving laterally with quality footwork. Speed in the transfer and accuracy across the infield really stood out while showing a strong arm. Outfield work was equally impressive with advanced routes and ability to track paired with above-average arm strength (90 OF Velo). The profile is as well-rounded as you’ll find in the class with an even bigger ceiling to tap into.

Cannon Goldin, OF, Buford
I mention polish frequently when talking about the Ole Miss commit, and yet another performance where it shines through. Bat-to-ball skills remain as high as you’ll find in the state, staying simple and compact in the box. Stayed through the middle of the field well in his round with the ability to carry balls on a line into both gaps. Max EV 95.3. Defensive profile for Goldin has a chance to be plus in CF with great footwork and routes alike with confidence to attack any ball. Goldin would finish the day with a top-five OF velo at 92 as well to further the profile in center.

Terrance Bowen, SS, Blessed Trinity
From 2023 Future Games to the 2025 Super 60, and everywhere in-between, All Terrance Bowen does is find loud barrels. The Oklahoma State commit displayed the effortless above-average bat speed (Max 83.2) once again as drove balls backside off the back wall of the facility. Minimal wasted effort for Bowen as still creates good separation and length in-zone. The now everyday shortstop for Blessed Trinity, Bowen showed great balance in his infield actions with good range and flexibility in the lower half. Actions could allow Bowen to profile at multiple positions to really let the bat thrive at the next level.

Reid Worley, RHP, Cherokee
The #1 pitcher in Georgia’s 2025 class capped off a huge junior season with an All-American game bid and now opens his senior year with a quality showing at Super 60. Worley is an above-average athlete in a 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame who repeats an athletic, loose delivery with ease in a three-quarters slot. Fastball continues to tick up for the Kennesaw State commit, living 91-92 while reaching back for 93 multiple times. Consistent ride and run, averaging 15+’’ of both IVB and horizontal while filling up the strike zone. Slider remains plus at 80-84 with huge horizontal sweep at over 17 inches, with feel to land for strikes and innate feel to spin. Worley’s average slider spin rate of 3174 was the 2nd highest average in Super 60 history and only strengthened its claim as one of the best breaking balls in the country. Changeup has a chance to be a real difference maker for the RHP with budding feel to both sides of the plate at 82-85 and hard arm-side fade. Already shown signs of a swing and miss offering to LHH. The profile is as buttoned up as you’ll find on either side of the ball in Georgia’s 2025 class and there’s even more to come. Will be a name to watch come July.

Cooper Underwood, LHP, Allatoona
Underwood was one of the biggest winners in the class throughout 2024 with a monster summer/fall campaign that pushed him into the Top 10 in the class as well as this Super 60 bid. The Georgia Tech commit has added some physicality to the lean 6-foot-1 frame and is really beginning to work the part of a starting pitcher at the next level. Fastball was up to 91.1 on the day, sitting 89-90 with great carry through the zone (Max IVB 22.7”, 1st in-event). Showed a pair of breaking balls with distinct shape and present feel to spin both. Curveball at 75-78 showed 11/5 shape with quality depth and nearly averaging 2700 RPMs. Slider at 77-80 is becoming a put-away sweeper for Underwood with tilt and good horizontal movement. Changeup is quickly developing at 82-85 with ability to tunnel and late glove-side tumble. Feel for the zone was present with all four pitches and will be the biggest to a huge spring because obviously the stuff is there.

DJ McDowell, RHP, Lassiter
Yet another pipeline member of Future Games to Super 60, RHP DJ McDowell showed big-time projection in his showing on Sunday. Standing 6-foot-4, 188-pounds, the Tennessee commit has added some good muscle since we last saw him in the summer and still even more to come. Fastball lived 90-92 with good arm-side run and feel for the zone. Tighter slider at 80-83 flashed some late depth that has a great chance of missing bats frequently this spring. Splitter is developing into a quality third offering for McDowell at 81-83 with ability to kill spin and late tumble that plays very well at the bottom of the zone. Fully healthy heading into the spring as SP1 for Lassiter, and I fully expect more jumps to come in his senior campaign.
