Our 2025 preseason coverage begins today with a preview of the Hawaii Prep Academy Ka Makani.

2025 TEAM OUTLOOK

High School: Hawaii Preparatory Academy (Kamuela, HI)
Head Coach: Jeremy Lustik
HHSAA Classification: Division II
Conference: Big Island
2024 Record: 6-10

+ No. Returning Positional Starters: 7
+ No. Returning Pitchers: 3

Hawaii Prep Academy went 6-10 last season but closed out the season strong, winning three of their final four games and put up 25 runs during that stretch. The team will return several names on the offensive front that should help shape the teams identity. The team has already played a pair of preseason contests and have looked sharp with a 17-8 victory against Kealakehe and a 6-4 win over Honoka'a. The team has already built some momentum and are trending in the right direction with the regular season quickly approaching.

TOP RETURNING PLAYERS

Hawaii Prep Academy will be led by their lone senior commitment at the moment, '25 RHP/INF Nishiki Iwai who will be attending Hawaii Pacific University in the fall. Iwai sits in the low-80s on the mound and utilizes a trio of offspeed pitches to get outs. At the dish, he works gap-to-gap with some power and above-average speed. He will also be one of their more reliable defenders on the dirt. Iwai will be able to impact Hawaii Prep in every area of the game and the team will continue to collect wins as Iwai continues to lead the way.

'26 INF Ed Lustik (Uncommitted) is another upperclass that Hawaii Prep will rely on to provide some impact in the lineup. Lustik has been starting on the varsity squad for two years now and will be looking to take his next big step and begin contributing with leadership and production. The junior has physically added some strength and will be looking to put that on display this year, along with his experience.

Overall, Hawaii Prep as a good chance to beat their total of six wins from 2024 and if they do, the two names above will likely be key contributors.
